Pokemon Unite: How To Get Zeraora

Pokemon Unite launches today, July 21, for Nintendo Switch. While there is already quite an impressive roster of 'mons to choose from, ranging from fan-favourites like Pikachu and Charizard to slightly more obscure picks like Crustle and Cramorant, players will be happy to know that Gen 7 Mythical Pokemon Zeraora is currently available free of charge.

As well as being obtainable for free, Zeraora is a pretty decent Pokemon to play as. I've been through about ten games already and it's rare you come across a team that doesn't have at least one Zeraora, primarily because of its Speedster category, which makes it an incredibly valuable attacker and scorer.

Pokemon Unite: How To Get Zeraora

Fortunately, getting Zeraora in Pokemon Unite is extremely easy – in fact, it takes about five seconds.

Once you've completed the tutorial section and find yourself on the Pokemon Unite homescreen, all you need to do in order to get yourself a Zeraora right off the bat is as follows:

  • From the homescreen itself, press X to bring up a menu.
  • You should be able to see a subsection titled "Mail," which will be marked with the red dot that denotes unread notifications.
  • Click Mail and go to the first message you received.
  • This message includes a Unite License for Zeraora, which means you will now have the option to use it in all matches provided somebody else on your team hasn't already chosen it.

That's pretty much all there is to it. Once you open the mail and have successfully redeemed your Unite License for it, Zeraora will be available on the Pokemon selection screen preceding every single match you play.

Again, Zeraora is actually quite a valuable addition to any team. This is for multiple reasons – the fact it doesn't evolve means that it starts off in its full form, as opposed to Charizard or Venusaur players who begin each match as either Charmander or Bulbasaur, respectively. What's more, Zeraora's immense speed makes it one of the strongest scorers in the game, as well as giving it a unique ability to both escape confrontations and close large gaps between your team and low-health enemies.

In case you're curious, Zeraora's full stat breakdown is as follows:

  • Offence: 3.5/5 stars
  • Endurance: 1.5/5 stars
  • Mobility: 4/5 stars
  • Scoring: 3/5 stars
  • Support: 0.5/5 stars

As you can see, Zeraora is a bit of a glass cannon with next to no support capacity, so it's best played by lone wolves who know how to manipulate the map in order to destroy enemy bases and pick up breezy kills. Zeraora is admittedly a bit more difficult to play than the likes of Snorlax and Slowbro, but hey – once you get the hang of it, you'll be topping your team in every game. Happy scoring.
