Konami has confirmed the new PES release, which will be known as eFootball. This fall, a digital-only game will be released for PC, mobile, and consoles, with cross-play compatibility.
Konami has made some major changes to its long-running football series, officially confirming the new PES release, as well as the brand’s name change, which now goes by the name eFootball. Also, that is going to be the name worldwide, leaving behind the names Pro Evolution Soccer and Winning Eleven (in Japan).

PES has evolved into eFootball.
Seitaro Kimura, the series’ producer, has revealed the first details about the game’s future, including a firm commitment to a free-to-play model and the fact that it would be built on Unreal Engine 4, among other things.
According to Kimura, the Japanese business intends for the saga to grow into a platform capable of adding new material via updates rather than annual releases. Instead, the game will get free upgrades for each new season. In terms of game modes, we will initially only be able to play friendly matches, but more modalities will be offered later as an optional DLC.
Although there is no mention of saga signature modes such as Master League or myClub, the first roadmap indicates that there are plans to introduce a mode in which we will be able to create and manage our own team (name to be confirmed), as well as the ability to participate in online leagues.
Neymar returns as a worldwide ambassador, and new teams have been announced.
PSG footballer Neymar Jr. is returning as a worldwide ambassador. Since his last appearance in a Konami football game, the Brazilian has returned home with eFootball, which has Lionel Messi as the game’s main picture.
Aside from the introduction of Neymar Jr., eFootball will debut with 9 teams in total, with no details on how — or when — further clubs would be added. These are the Konami-confirmed teams as of this writing:
- F.C. Barcelona
- FC Bayern Munich
- Juventus
- Manchester United
- Arsenal
- Corinthians
- Flamengo
- São Paulo
- River Plate
Cross-Play
One of the things that pleases Konami is that eFootball will have cross-play, although in a limited capacity. Users from different platforms will be able to play with those from the same family. In other words, those who play on PS5 will be able to play with those from PS4 and Xbox Series X|S, as well as those from Xbox One. The game will include, like it has in the past, a mobile edition, although it has yet to be confirmed whether or not it will include cross-play.
The next PES release, now named eFootball, will be available in fall for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, iOS, and Android.
