It seems Sony have designed the PS5 with customizability and options thereof in mind. After several leaks regarding the same, it was officially confirmed with the console’s official teardown video that its side plates are easily swappable, which means that there’s potential there for customization and users being able to buy new, custom side plates (even though Sony has made no official announcements to that effect).
Now, it turns out that something similar might be possible with the DualSense controller as well. As pointed out in a video by YouTuber John Glasscock (via Push Square), the black plastic encasing on the bottom of the controller – which surrounds its analog sticks, microphone, home button, and speaker – can be removed. In fact, it can be removed with surprising ease- you don’t even need any tools to do so. Take a look below.
We’re assuming (or hoping, at any rate) that options for custom parts for the controller and for the console’s side plates will be made officially available not long after launch, either through Sony or through official third party partners.
Recently, we also learned that the DualSense doesn’t seem to be compatible with the PS4, even though it works with the PS3, and (weirdly enough) the Nintendo Switch.
Meanwhile, Sony have also confirmed that as part of the PS5’s accessibility features, the DualSense’s adaptive triggers and haptic feedback can be reduced or even disabled altogether.
