There may not have been much information on Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart before, but there certainly is now. The game participated in the recent Gamescom Open Night Live 2020 event, where it showed off a full-length, uninterrupted gameplay demo that detailed all sorts of information that Insomniac Games hadn’t previously discussed.

This demo is the same one that premiered during the PlayStation 5 reveal event. However, the difference between it and the current version is that the Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart gameplay is completely unedited. As such, the demo reveals that Dr. Nefarious is indeed behind the dimensional rifts that the game titles itself after.

After the Rift Apart gameplay trailer premiered, Gamescom Open Night Live organizer, Geoff Keighley, interviewed Insomniac Games team members, Marcus Smith and Mike Daly. Keighley asked the pair various questions about what to expect from the upcoming title. The two sadly couldn’t answer all of Keighley’s inquiries but did speak on the ones they could.

For instance, fans now definitively know where Rift Apart takes place on the Ratchet and Clank timeline. According to Smith, Rift Apart will not be direct Ratchet and Clank 2016 sequel. Instead, the game will continue the storyline of Ratchet and Clank Into the Nexus, which was the final Ratchet and Clank title released before the 2016 reboot. Smith says Rift Apart will be a standalone title, though, and that players don’t have to play other Ratchet and Clank games to understand what’s going on.

Smith and Daly also reiterated what a PlayStation 5 Ratchet and Clank would look like. Thanks to the next-generation console’s SSD, the game will have absolutely no loading screens. The PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller will also make the game’s weapons and combat more immersive than they’ve ever been before.

Keighley kept his promise about asking Insomniac Games to divulge information on Rift Apart‘s mysterious female Lombax. He tried to ask about the character’s name, but Smith and Daly remained tight-lipped about her. They essentially told him that they wanted to keep her mysterious for a little while longer. So, until further notice, fans may have to wait until the game launches to find out any concrete information about her.

Speaking of the Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart release, Daly was actually able to provide some information on it. Apparently, Rift Apart will come out around the same time as the PlayStation 5 launch window. Smith and Daly weren’t able to give an exact date, but it sounds like Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart will be a PlayStation 5 launch title after all, or at least sometime around it.

Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart is in development for PS5.
