Redout 2 has been announced by 34BigThings and Saber Interactive, with the futuristic racer coming in 2022. The confirmed platforms are PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch. The announce trailer shows off some gameplay from Redout 2 and one of the tracks that players will have to navigate at breakneck speed. The game is looking pretty colourful and the soundtrack sounds promising as well.
The description for the game reads: “Redout 2 is the next generation of the award-winning series where racing through the dystopian wastelands of Earth is one of the galaxy’s most popular sports. A tribute to classic AG racing legends like Wipeout and F-Zero, Redout 2 carries on this legacy with lightning-fast speed, adrenaline, and action combined with stunning visuals and audio. Reach impossible speeds in exhilarating futuristic races across an expansive single-player campaign and competitive online multiplayer featuring in-depth controls, robust hover ship customization, and a killer original soundtrack.”
The original Redout was released in 2017, and in our review Jake wrote: “Redout is an ambitious attempt to recapture the glory of futuristic racing games, while paying homage to WipEout. The game’s controls and responsiveness have been fine-tuned to make the hardest of tracks very interesting and engaging to race across at supersonic speeds. Redout is an example of a game that’s given and old formula another coat of paint, but it could also mean the beginning of another futuristic racer franchise, in the absence of a true contemporary from Sony.”
Redout was followed by Redout: Space Assault which was an on rail shooter that was first released on mobile before making the jump to PC and consoles. In our review for that game, Dom wrote: “If you’re a fan of on-rails shooters, Redout: Space Assault is an enjoyable, if limited, addition to the genre.”
