Resident Evil 9 Will Have the Longest Development Period in the Series – Rumor

Though Resident Evil Village released last month to strong critical praise and sales, it’s no secret that Capcom is working on the next mainline sequel. Insider AestheticGamer (also known as Dusk Golem) reported in March that Resident Evil 9 was already in development and could be the last numbered entry in the series. In a new tweet, he reveals that the sequel has been in development since 2018.

Resident Evil 9 started development in 2018, when it releases it’ll be by far the Resident Evil game that’s been in development the longest (probably about 6-7 years of development).” Of course, given how much Resident Evil Village changed during its development, it’s possible that Resident Evil 9 has gone through its share of overhauls as well. Rough calculations on AestheticGamer’s estimate indicate a release sometime in 2024 or 2025.

Not to worry though because there’s plenty of other Resident Evil content on the way. Resident Evil 4 is coming to VR platforms while a full-on remake is rumored to be in development (with a release apparently planned for 2023). There’s also Resident Evil Outrage, a successor to the Resident Evil Revelations series that stars Rebecca Chambers and will reportedly launch as a timed exclusive for Nintendo Switch.
