Riders Republic Trailer Introduces Characters and Sets Up the Story

After the success of Steep, Ubisoft has yet another title in the works to attract extreme sports fans, and that's Riders Republic. Even though the game has seen a fair deal of delays ever since its reveal late last year, the game's open beta has been extended to August 28th. The trailer Ubisoft shared at Gamescom gives fans a look at what their long-term goal will be and the characters that will help them on their way.

Like Steep, Riders Republic seems to feature a small story about gamers aiming to achieve "Legendary status" in all of the modes the game has to offer, dealing with things like sponsorships and needing to get the best gear to make it to the top. Even a small story isn't without its characters, and fans will need to make friends with two in particular in order to get there.

The story starts off with the player receiving a recommendation from a girl named Suki to join Riders Republic. She also seems to serve as the game's tutorial character who shows them around Rider's Ridge, the game's hub. Once the player explores and sees what the place is all about, Suki introduces fans to an athlete who has "Legendary status" in the bike, ski, and wingsuit sports the Ridge has to offer.

The athlete's name is Brett, and he's "always looking riders who have the potential to be champions" according to Suki in the trailer. Brett seems to act as the player's coach or possible sponsorship manager as he's meant to help players on their way to Legendary status. He says in the trailer that he'll take the player under his wing if they "show they've got what it takes," which may lead to some starting missions for the tutorial.

Since Riders Republic is a massively multiplayer sports game, these characters may not play too big of a role, but might show up every so often as fans progress and get closer at mastering the sports available. Still, they may serve to charm some fans' hearts with their unique personalities.

There's potential in Riders Republic to possibly have a more fleshed-out story than its predecessor as the DLC for Steep featured their own stories and stakes, with the range of them expanding with each release. How much the extreme sports game has to share with players will need to be seen once the game releases later this year.

Riders Republic is scheduled to come out on October 28th for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with an open beta currently available until August 28th.
