Final Fantasy 7 is generally regarded as one of the most influential and memorable titles in gaming history thanks to its extensive narrative, gameplay mechanics, and unique setting and aesthetic. This entry on the original PlayStation was the game that arguably put Final Fantasy on the map in terms of mainstream success, and it touched the hearts of many who played it. One celebrity in particular recently discussed a very personal story regarding the game.

Robert Pattinson, star of the upcoming films Tenet and The Batman, which released its first trailer at DC’s Fandome event, revealed in a recent GameSpot interview while talking about Tenet that his favorite game of all time is the original Final Fantasy 7. He went on to talk about an emotional moment he had with the game, as apparently one of the only times he has cried in his life was when Aerith gets killed by Sephiroth.

For many in the gaming community, Aerith’s death is one of the most emotionally impactful moments not just in Final Fantasy 7, but also in all of gaming history. Thus, it’s not particularly surprising to hear that her death moved Pattinson to tears, but it is nice to see the actor in a much more personal light.

It may come as a surprise to some, but many celebrities thoroughly enjoy playing video games, and as time goes on others beyond Pattinson have opened up about their love and appreciation for the medium. The star of Netflix’s popular Witcher series, Henry Cavill, actually has a gaming man cave and is a big fan of CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher games.

Some celebrities have also begun to get involved with gaming on larger platforms. For example, Snoop Dogg streams on Twitch occasionally, and rage quit while playing Madden earlier this year. Brie Larson also recently started a YouTube channel to show off her love of Animal Crossing, showing how much video games impact different kinds of people from all walks of life.

In times of quarantine, it’s interesting to watch celebrities enjoy gaming while stuck inside through social platforms like YouTube and Twitch, but it’s also nice hearing them talk about their favorite moments. Maybe Robert Pattinson will one day stream the Final Fantasy 7 Remake while waiting for Part 2 to release.

Final Fantasy 7 is available now on Android, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
