With the official reveal of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 almost here, some incredible benchmarks have leaked for the flagship graphics card, showing performance gains greater than even the most optimistic of current expectations. The source of these leaks is not verified so the information should be considered a rumor, but if accurate, it suggests that the 3090 will be well worth the apparent high price tag.
The images in question are reportedly draft slides from an Nvidia presentation, and were leaked from a new Twitter account, but have been shared by respected leaker CyberPunkCat, providing the information with more credibility. They show basic specifications that match those of previous leaks, but the headline information is the reported benchmark statistic of more than a 100% increase in performance for Remedy’s action game Control, versus the current generation flagship RTX 2080 Ti card.

In addition, the leaked slide shows a reported 100% performance increase for Minecraft RTX, and an approximate 75% increase for Wolfenstein: Youngblood. The benchmarks are all reported as using Ultra settings at 4K resolution, with AI powered DLSS on, and RTX ray tracing enabled. Previous rumors on performance levels suggested a 50% improvement over the current generation RTX 2080 Ti.
Although it is easy to be skeptical of an unverified rumor showing huge performance gains, the numbers appear more reasonable when considering the likely facts behind them. Nvidia is going to choose the games with best benchmark results for its performance graphs, which are titles with strong optimization for RTX ray tracing, where the RTX 3090 has been rumored to have up to 4 times performance advantage over the current generation cards. Additionally, the huge 24 GB of next generation GDDR6X memory will undoubtedly provide a bigger boost when used at resolutions of 4K and higher, as used in the reported benchmarks. While the impact of the AI powered DLSS is difficult to quantify, it is logical to expect the new cards to perform better with this new technology than the existing ones.
If these benchmark stats turn out to be accurate, then it is no wonder that Nvidia is making such a big noise about the RTX 30 Series launch. Despite the reported high power and space requirements for the RTX 3090 and RTX 3080, these stats suggest such gigantic performance increases that most gamers will be happy to manage any inconvenience. Similarly, the reported $1399 launch price seems much more reasonable for a card that could as much as double performance.
Thankfully, gamers will know more official details about the RTX 3090 and the rest of the Ampere powered graphics card range very soon.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 is expected to launch on September 17.
