Rust's next update goes live today and includes an all-new underwater world featuring submarines, sharks, and the ability to do a spot of fishing.
One of the aims of most games out there is to stay alive. However, it isn't usually your primary objective. Keeping Sonic alive in Emerald Hill is simply a necessity as you seek out the Chaos Emeralds. In Rust, the aim of the game is to literally stay alive, and there are a lot of things trying to stop you from accomplishing that.
If you think you've got a handle on everything Rust has to throw at you, prepare to be thrown a curveball. Facepunch has revealed Rust's Going Deep update will go live today, adding a number of aquatic risks to be on the lookout for from here on in. Most notably, sharks. Yes, if you dare venture into the water from today, you might well be devoured by a shark.

You don't have to face these sharks unarmed, though. The Going Deep update is also adding submarines complete with torpedoes that can be used to fend off and kill any oncoming sharks before they kill you. Submarines come in one-seater or two-seater versions and can be bought from fishing villages. The torpedoes can also be bought or crafted yourself.
There's a bigger reason behind the addition of submarines other than killing sharks. Their addition goes hand-in-hand with new procedural underwater lab dungeons. To access these dungeons you must locate its accompanying moonpool, and these moonpools can only be reached using a submarine. Once inside the dungeons, you'll hopefully happen upon some loot, but also might run into some pretty angry NPCs.
Don't worry, not everything being added to Rust today will have you on edge as you fear for your virtual life. The Handmade Fishing Rod also makes the cut, allowing you to stand on the dock and do a relaxing spot of fishing. Remember, surviving in Rust isn't all about avoiding rivals players and water-dwelling predators. You also need to eat. Rust's Going Deep update goes live today, Thursday, August 5, 2021, at 7 pm BST/2 pm ET.
