The turbulent tides in Sea of Thieves were designed with friends in mind to man the decks and set sail for adventure. While follow pirates are nice and all, sometimes a player just needs the company of a pet. Developer Rare obliged by introducing cats to Sea of Thieves earlier this year, but now it seems the puppers are finally getting in.
While dogs have not officially been announced by either Rare or publisher Microsoft, sharp-eyed fans were able to spot the dog during a Xbox Game Pass sizzle reel. Microsoft released a new trailer for Xbox Games Pass during yesterday’s Gamescom Opening Night Live. It was at the 23-second mark of the two-minute trailer that a Sea of Thieves pirate appeared with a dog.

While Rare has yet to confirm that dogs will be joining the lineup of premium pets, it seems likely that they will soon be in the online game. This news comes as a sigh of relief for Sea of Thieves players who were stuck with parrots, monkeys, and cats as their only source of animal companionship on the high seas.
Petting dogs has become a key element of any game willing to introduce “man’s best friend.” Thanks to the dedication of the “Can You Pet The Dog?” Twitter account, it has become a crucial bit of information as to whether or not a game allows for dog petting. While it was only a one-second glimpse, it appears that Sea of Thieves passes the dog petting test as well as the dog hugging test.
Sea of Thieves is currently available on PC and Xbox One.
