Sega has confirmed that Sega Ages, its series of ports and remasters of classic Sega Genesis and arcade titles on Nintendo Switch, has come to an end. This announcement comes as a surprise to fans who were expecting Sega Saturn and Dreamcast games to join the series in the near future, as Sega had previously confirmed its intent to include them with brand new ports from M2, the studio behind the Sega Genesis Mini and Konami’s Castlevania Anniversary Collection. Thankfully, in a recent interview, Sega’s Yosuke Okunari confirmed that the company still plans on bringing classic titles to Nintendo Switch in the future.
Speaking to Japanese website Game Watch, Okunari confirmed that Herzog Zwei would be the final title in the Sega Ages series. While he did confirm that Sega is working on some sort of follow-up to the series of remasters and ports, he could not confirm whether M2 would be involved yet. Speaking about their plans to follow up Sega Ages, Okunari stated “Considering Sega Ages has ended, some may be wondering if we have plans to continue re-releasing past titles on Nintendo Switch – I want that to happen. I hope to bring something over that will really satisfy Switch players. So until then, we hope you’ll look forward to it.”

M2’s Tsuyoshi Matsuoka commented on ending the Sega Ages series, “For us at M2, there are still a lot of other titles we want to port over as well. Personally speaking, I want to re-release Sega’s entire history of interactive games!” While this doesn’t confirm anything, this does hopefully imply that M2 is not finished bringing its expertise to re-releasing Sega’s history. While nothing has been confirmed yet, Sega claimed numerous times that it had planned to bring Saturn and Dreamcast titles to Sega Ages, so hopefully whatever the company is working on next involves titles from those platforms.
Herzog Zwei is out now on Nintendo Switch, it is the final title in the Sega Ages series.
