Kingdom Hearts Director Kills Hope Of Previous Titles Coming To Switch

Kingdom Hearts 3 ReMind

The Kingdom Hearts franchise is a strange one, and I’m not just talking about it’s crazy story, either. The game’s release schedule has been all over the place, starting on the PS2, and then having a multitude of spin offs on Nintendo and Sony handhelds, before finally getting Kingdom Hearts 3 on PS4 and Xbox One (the latter of which was odd, because there had never been a Kingdom Hearts on a Xbox console before it). The full previous series has finally made its way to Xbox, and is even on Game Pass now. But one place they won’t be coming, apparently, is Nintendo’s Switch.

In an interview with Nintendo Enthusiast, series Director Tetsuya Nomura seemingly squashed the idea of the previous games in the series coming to Nintendo’s latest hardware. He said that publisher Square Enix did, at one point, think about bringing the older titles over but undefined technical issues prevented it from being viable. Nomura doesn’t offer specifics about those technical issues, so it’s hard to say how much of a hurdle they are in the end, but it seems that as of now there’s no plans to bring the rest of the series on the go.

Doubly odd is that the latest game in the series, Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory, is set to come to the Switch, but as mentioned above, the franchise has always been screwy with how it was released. None of the games have ever released on PC, either, strangely enough. We know there are more games coming, however, so maybe whatever they will be will make its way to Nintendo’s system at the very least.
