Skyward Sword: Goddess Cubes and Goddess Chests Guide

Quick Links

A new and interesting mechanic introduced in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is the Goddess Cube system. By finding these strange cubes around the Surface, you'll unlock fantastic rewards that will help you on your journey.

Whether you're playing the original Skyward Sword for Wii or the remake, Skyward Sword HD, there will be 27 Goddess Cubes to find, and the rewards are the same for each version. We've outlined how to find every Goddess Cube and their corresponding Goddess Chests.

How Goddess Cubes Work

Once you find a Goddess Cube, you'll need to hold your sword up to the sky to charge it. Then, you can release a Skyward Strike on the Goddess Cube, and it'll activate.

Once it's activated, you'll be able to find a corresponding Goddess Chest somewhere in the Sky. These Chests contain fabulous rewards, like Pieces of Hearts, rupees, and more.

If you find every Goddess Cube and its corresponding Goddess Chest, you'll obtain the following:

  • 6 Pieces of Heart
  • 4 equipment upgrades (Small Seed Satchel, Small Quiver, Adventure Pouch Upgrade, Small Bomb Bag)
  • 1 Bottle
  • 7 Medals
  • 2,100 rupees

Faron (First Visit)

Goddess Cubes are only found on the Surface, so the first ones you'll probably find are in Faron Province. There's a Goron here who will teach you how to activate them, as well.

Goddess Cube #1 – Deep Woods

When you first enter the Faron Woods for the first time, you'll find the first Goddess Cube very shortly afterward. After crossing some tightropes, you'll meet one of only a couple Gorons in this game, and his name is Gorko. He'll tell you about the Goddess Cube sitting next to the two of you, and that you can activate it with a Skyward Strike. Do exactly that, and it'll vanish.

> Goddess Chest #1 – Pumpkin Landing

Reward: Adventure Pouch Upgrade

The corresponding Goddess Chest for this Cube is also easy to find. Simply land on Pumpkin Landing (the floating island that's home to the Lumpy Pumpkin) and check to the right of the front door, just tucked around the side of the building. This Chest will contain an Adventure Pouch Upgrade, adding a slot to your inventory.

Goddess Cube #2 – Deep Woods (just outside of Skyview Temple)

This Cube is incredibly easy to find. It's just outside of Skyview Temple, right past where you activated the first Cube.

> Goddess Chest #2 – The Sky (south of Skyloft)

Reward: Piece of Heart

Close to Skyloft, just south of it (southwest of Pumpkin Landing), there's a small island with just a patch of grass and this Goddess Chest, which contains a Piece of Heart.

Goddess Cube #3 – Skyview Spring

This is another super easy Cube to find. Once you've made your way through the Skyview Temple dungeon, you'll enter the Skyview Spring. Tucked behind the Goddess Statue, you'll find this easy-peasy Goddess Cube. If you miss this one, you can always come back — you don't get locked out.

> Goddess Chest #3 – Pumpkin Landing

Reward: Gold rupee (300)

This Chest is also on Pumpkin Landing, but it's a bit more inaccessible than Chest #1.

For this one, you'll need to skydive off of your Loftwing and land on the awning of the Lumpy Pumpkin. Inside this Goddess Chest is a gold rupee, which is worth 300.

Eldin (First Visit)

During your first trip to Eldin Province, there are actually quite a few Goddess Cubes to find. As always, you don't need to find them all during your first visit.

Goddess Cube #4 – Eldin Volcano

The first Cube you can find in the Eldin region is right at the beginning of it, as you enter.

Just take a few steps forward and after the first left, there'll be a ledge you can drop down to. Give the Cube here a Skyward Strike and be on your way.

> Goddess Chest #4 – The Sky (just west of Fun Fun Island)

Reward: Small Seed Satchel (+10 seeds capacity)

To the west of Fun Fun Island (the one with the colorful wheel design), there's a small island. You can identify this island by the large cage that you can't currently access (more on this later).

On this island is the Goddess Chest we're looking for, which contains a Small Seed Satchel. This increases your Deku Seed carrying capacity by ten.

Goddess Cube #5 – Eldin Volcano

In Eldin, you'll meet a Mogma that teaches you how to use the explosive Bomb Flowers. After finishing this sequence, you'll come up on a Bird Statue, followed by a three-way split in the road.

Head down the middle path and you'll find a Goddess Cube waiting for you.

> Goddess Chest #5 – The Sky (near Beedle's Island)

Reward: Silver rupee (100)

There's an island with different levels between Beedle's Island and Bamboo Island. On the upper level, you can find this Goddess Chest. It has a silver rupee, worth 100.

Goddess Cube #6 – Eldin Volcano

While you're making your way through Eldin, you'll have to skydive through a chasm with various ledges, some of which have goodies on them. One of these ledges contains a Goddess Cube. this particular ledge is on the right-hand side.

Don't worry if you miss — you can try again by jumping in the air geyser and riding it back to the top.

> Goddess Chest #6 – Isle of Songs

Reward: Gold rupee (300)

The corresponding Goddess Chest is located on the Isle of Songs. You'll need to restore the Light Tower in Skyloft to enter the Thunderhead, where the Isle of Songs is located.

Once you've done that, head in on your Loftwing. You can find the Chest on the lower portion of the island. Inside is a gold rupee.

Goddess Cube #7 – Eldin Volcano

Before you enter the Earth Temple, head to the west of the entrance. There'll be some spots where you can dig with the Digging Mitts, one of which will reveal an air geyser.

Pick up a Bomb Flower, toss it into the air stream, and watch as it blows up a boulder, which is blocking a Goddess Cube.

> Goddess Chest #7 – Bamboo Island

Reward: Gold rupee (300)

On Bamboo Island, there's a small building. Just behind it is the Goddess Chest, containing a gold rupee.

Goddess Cube #8 – Eldin Volcano

In the last entry, we headed west from the Earth Temple entrance. This time, head east. You'll find a Bokoblin village made up of small huts.

Just past this area, down to the right, you'll find a Goddess Cube. Follow the flow of lava if you're having trouble finding it. If you've passed over the makeshift bridge, you've gone too far.

> Goddess Chest #8 – The Sky (between Skyloft and Beedle's Island)

Reward: Treasure Medal

In the northeast section of the Sky map, just southeast of Beedle's Island, you can find an island with multiple levels.

The Goddess Chest is on the lower ledge, but you can use some vines to climb down from the top. It contains the Treasure Medal.

Goddess Cube #9 – Eldin Volcano

The last chest in Eldin (for now) is a bit of a pain to get to.

In the area where you slide down the sand, you can use an air geyser on the left side to lift yourself up onto a platform. Move forward and you'll find a lower ledge with a Goddess Cube that you can jump to.

Jump down to it (be careful not to miss or roll off) and send it on its way with a Skyward Strike.

> Goddess Chest #9 – Skyloft

Reward: Piece of Heart

You won't need to head away from Skyloft to get this Chest, as it's right in town. Unfortunately, even though you unlock this Chest early on, you won't be able to actually retrieve it until later on.

Once you get the Water Dragon's Scale, take a dip in the river of Skyloft. Make your way through the tunnel under the partially-submerged building on the banks, and shoot up out of the water with the Scale's help into a shed (or you can just climb out of the water the normal way, but what's the fun in that?).

You'll find the Chest here, and it contains a Piece of Heart.

Lanayru (First Visit)

Lanayru Province is home to its fair share of Goddess Cubes, and some that you can find on during your first visit can be a bit difficult to reach.

Goddess Cube #10 – Lanayru Mine

When you first arrive in the Lanayru Mine, you can find a Goddess Cube in the southern portion of the area with the Bird Statue.

> Goddess Chest #10 – The Sky (near Beedle's Island)

Reward: Silver rupee (100)

There's a small island southeast of Beedle's Island, where you'll find this Goddess Chest. It's on the lower ledge, hidden behind a bombable wall that you'll need to get rid of. Pop open the Chest and Link will be a silver rupee richer.

Goddess Cube #11 – Lanayru Desert

This one can be a bit tricky. You'll need the Hook Beetle and some good aim. In the southwest of the Desert, you can spot a Goddess Cube across the sand, with an Ampilus standing between you and your goal (those snail crab enemies).

You'll need to grab a bomb and then drop it on the Ampilus, creating a platform at the midway point of the sand out of its shell.

A few notes: Try to drop the bomb on the Ampilus when it's in its starting position, because if it moves closer to you, it'll be way harder to run from its shell to the Goddess Cube. Additionally, make sure your stamina meter completely regenerates when you get to the Ampilus shell, as you'll need the stamina to make it from there to the islet with the Goddess Cube.

> Goddess Chest #11 – The Sky (Volcano Isle)

Reward: Heart Medal

After activating that difficult-to-reach Goddess Cube, you can earn yourself a Heart Medal from the corresponding Goddess Chest.

South of Skyloft, east of the light beam that takes you down to Lanayru Province, there's a volcano-shaped island. You'll find the Chest on the outer ledge of this island.

Goddess Cube #12 – Outside the Temple of Time

This one can also be tricky, but it can also be hilarious if you keep missing it.

Near the Temple of Time, you can hit a Timeshift Stone inside a small alcove that activates a minecart. When you ride it, you'll pass by a Goddess Cube on a ledge partway through the trip.

You'll have to carefully time a Skyward Strike from the minecart. If you miss, try again!

> Goddess Chest #12 – Beedle's Island

Reward: Piece of Heart

The corresponding Goddess Chest is located on the tall upper portion of Beedle's Island. Just dive off your Loftwing to get to it. Inside is a Piece of Heart!

Faron (Second Visit)

Time to head back to Faron! On your second visit, you'll visit some new areas, which means there will be new Goddess Cubes to find.

Goddess Cube #13 – Faron Woods

After you obtain the Water Dragon's Scale, you can begin scaling the interior of the Great Tree. Once you reach the spot near the top where you go back outside, look down over the edge. There are three Goddess Cubes that you can see from up here, each of which is on top of one of the Tree's massive roots. The first is this one, on the west side of the Great Tree. Just jump down and use your Sailcloth to land neatly next to it, then activate it with a Skyward Strike.

> Goddess Chest #13 – Skyloft/The Sky

Reward: Silver rupee (100)

The corresponding chest is on a tiny island just off the diving platform south of the Knight Academy. It's technically in Skyloft, and you won't need your Loftwing to get to it, but you will need to glide over to it. Once you open the chest, you'll be 100 rupees richer.

Goddess Cube #14 – Faron Woods

Once again climb to the top of the Great Tree with your Water Dragon's Scale. On the southeast side of the Tree, you can drop down to another Goddess Cube. This one can also be accessed with the help of the Clawshots once you get them.

> Goddess Chest #14 – The Sky (Volcano Isle)

Reward: Piece of Heart

You can access the Cube for this Chest with a neat glide or the Clawshots, and the same goes for the Chest.

On that volcano-shaped island near the Lanayru Province light beam, there's an upper ledge where you'll find this Chest. You can either dive very carefully, or just land on the lower portion and pull yourself up with the Clawshots.

Goddess Cube #15 – Faron Woods

This is the last of the Goddess Cubes nestled onto the Great Tree's roots.

Once again, head to the top of the Tree with the Water Dragon's Scale. This time, you'll want to look for the platform next to the one containing the Goddess Cube, which is sitting between two blue mushrooms.

Fall to this other platform (use the Sailcloth to save yourself from some fall damage), then use the tightrope to make your way across.

> Goddess Chest #15 – Isle of Songs

Reward: Rupee Medal

The corresponding Goddess Chest can be found on the arch-structure northeast of the Isle of Songs, inside the Thunderhead. It's a grayish-blue building of sorts, covered in vines.

Use these vines to climb up to the top of the tower (take out the Walltulas first), where you'll find the Goddess Chest. Inside is one of the two Rupee Medals.

Goddess Cube #16 – Lake Floria

While you're in Lake Floria, you'll come across a dry area with a Bird Statue.

With your back to the Statue's face, head forward, jump down to the next ledge, and then swing a right and climb up the mini-ledge. You'll cross over a strange bridge-like structure. There's a Goddess Cube here that you can easily spot once you reach the bridge.

> Goddess Chest #16 – Skyloft (waterfall islands)

Reward: Gold rupee (300)

Make your way over to the waterfall islands in Skyloft. Use the Clawshots to make your way up to the large island that the waterfall drains off of. Look down over the ledge on your left and you should see the Goddess Chest on a small island slightly to the right.

Dive off the corner of the island you're on that sticks out over that smaller one with the Chest, and use the Sailcloth to float down.

Open the Goddess Chest and a gold rupee is all yours.

Lanayru (Second Visit)

With some huge new areas to visit in Lanayru on your second visit, you can find a bunch of Goddess Cubes that you couldn't access before.

Goddess Cube #17 – Lanayru Desert

The first Cube you can find during this trip to Lanayru is right in the Desert. You'll need the Clawshots to get this one.

In the northeast of the area, you can find a bombable wall. Blow it up, then use the Clawshots to make your way from platform to platform, with a Goddess Cube available at the end of this platforming sequence.

> Goddess Chest #17 – The Sky (near Beedle's Island)

Reward: Heart Medal

Back in the Sky, make your way to an island just west of Beedle's Island. This one has water on it. You'll need to dive through this water and jump up out of it with the Water Dragon's Scale to reach the Goddess Chest. Open it to grab the Heart Medal inside.

Goddess Cube #18 – Lanayru Desert

Another Cube in the Desert, but this time much closer to the Lanayru Mining Facility — in fact, it's right in its backyard, so to speak.

Just behind the dungeon (south of it), on top of the walls that separate the area into its shape, you can find a Goddess Cube. Just look for the Clawshot target on the side of the wall, pull yourself up, and then run along the top of the wall to where the Cube is.

The Clawshot target you're looking for is just opposite from a tree with a Bomb Flower on top of it. If you climb up and get a glorious shot of that Triforce display in the background, you know you're in the right spot.

From there, just head to your left and then take the first turn, and you'll see the Cube.

> Goddess Chest #18 – The Sky (near Fun Fun Island)

Reward: Life Medal

Back in the Sky, head northwest from Fun Fun Island. There are two Goddess Chests on a small island here. This island is split in two, with one side having jail bars and another having vines. The Chest we're looking for now is in an alcove on the lower portion of the vines island, so climb down those vines and make your way over to it. You can also skydive right to this lower landing from your Loftwing, but it's easier to just take the vines.

Either way, you'll be granted a Life Medal.

Goddess Cube #19 – Lanayru Sand Sea

On the east side of the entrance platform, just by the Bird Statue, you'll see some cargo boxes and what looks like trains. Climb up on the trains and boxes and look over to the next pile, closer to the sand.

One of these boxes will have a Clawshot target on it, though it's a bit hard to spot (it's on the right-hand side of one of the crates, tucked in behind). Pull yourself to it with the Clawshots, and drop off. There's a room here filled with Arachas (they're on the ceiling), and a Goddess Cube.

> Goddess Chest #19 – Skyloft (Bazaar)

Reward: Gold rupee (300)

The corresponding Goddess Chest is in the Skyloft Bazaar, which is perfect, because it contains a gold rupee. It's in a small room behind the Scrap Shop.

Goddess Cube #20 – Lanayru Sand Sea (Skipper's Retreat)

In Skipper's Retreat, you'll pass a bridge with a Moblin on it and come upon a Quadro Baba (those Deku Babas with the weird split four-way mouths). There are some tall pillars jutting out of the sand to the left of where you see that Quadro Baba, one of which has some vines on it.

Pull yourself over with the Clawshots, climb the vines to the left, and then hook yourself to the next platform. The Goddess Cube is just sitting on top of this one.

> Goddess Chest #20 – The Sky (near Fun Fun Island)

Reward: Potion Medal

Remember that strange split island with two Goddess Chests on one side and jail bars on the other? We'll be heading there again for this Chest.

This is the one on the other island, locked in a prison for some reason. There's a small patch of vines on the ceiling above the Chest, so grapple to it with the Clawshot through the small space above the bars, then drop down and open the Chest. It contains a Potion Medal!

Goddess Cube #21 – Lanayru Sand Sea (Pirate Stronghold)

After completing the Pirate Stronghold dungeon, you'll exit back outside. Turn around and look up. Well well well, if it isn't a sneaky Clawshot target. Grapple to it and then turn around and grapple to another above your head. Climb up and head forward and you'll easily see the Goddess Cube awaiting you.

> Goddess Chest #21 – Skyloft (waterfall islands)

Reward: Piece of Heart

The Chest we're looking for this time is up on top of the waterfall islands in Skyloft. This time, you don't need to dive off though — the chest is just sitting on the big island at the top of the waterfall. It's just around the other side of the water.

Eldin (Second Visit)

Your first trip to Eldin featured a ton of Goddess Cubes. This time around, there are only a couple!

Goddess Cube #22 – Volcano Summit

When you're making your way up to the Fire Sanctuary on the Volcano Summit, you'll come by a waterfall. Near here is a spot where you can dive off, with some platforms of varying heights that you can land on.

Behind one of the pillars is a lower ledge that's obscured from sight. On it is a Goddess Cube. Land on it carefully, then activate it with a Skyward Strike. There are some vines you can use to head back afterward.

> Goddess Chest #22 – Bug Island

Reward: Piece of Heart

The corresponding Goddess Chest is pretty easy to find, once you know where to look. It's sitting on a small overhang on Bug Island.

Make your way to the top of the tower found on this island (by diving onto it from your Loftwing or climbing up). Peer over the edge and you'll be able to see the Chest sitting on a platform. Jump down to get there, Clawshot the vines to get back.

Goddess Cube #23 – Volcano Summit

Right past the Bird Statue in front of the Fire Sanctuary is a small room with a window.

Clawshot to the pillar with vines that you can see through this window. Then, make your way to the next pillar slightly to your left (watch out for the Lizalfos on it!). Finally, latch to the ledge with the Goddess Cube on it.

> Goddess Chest #23 – Isle of Songs

Reward: Small Bomb Bag (+5 bombs capacity)

This Chest is pretty easy to grab. It's right on top of the big tower on the Isle of Songs.

Just dive off of your Loftwing to grab it. Inside is a Small Bomb Bag, which lets you carry five more Bombs.

Song of the Hero

We're in the home stretch now! During the Song of the Hero quest, you'll visit each of the three major provinces again, and there'll be some Goddess Cubes to find. You can actually get #24 and #25 earlier, but we've included them here for the sake of organization.

Goddess Cube #24 – Faron Woods

When you're back in Faron and have the Clawshots, you can grab another Goddess Chest.

Make your way back to Skyview Temple and use the Clawshot the grab the vines on the walls. Climb up to the top of the dungeon's exterior and use a Skyward Strike to activate this Goddess Cube.

> Goddess Chest #24 – Beedle's Island

Reward: Rupee Medal

Take a nap in Beedle's Air Shop to make it nighttime.

When you wake up on Beedle's Island, climb the ladder up to his sleeping loft, where you'll find a Goddess Chest with a Rupee Medal inside.

Goddess Cube #25 – Lake Floria

In the beautiful Lake Floria, just outside of the Ancient Cistern, there's a path that leads to the Water Dragon. It's right by the Floria Waterfall Bird Statue.

Near the start of this path, there are some vines on a cliff ledge.

Clawshot your way to those vines and then activate the Goddess Cube hiding up here.

> Goddess Chest #25 – Fun Fun Island

Reward: Gold rupee (300)

Right beneath Fun Fun Island is a tiny islet with the Goddess Chest on it. Open it for a gold rupee.

Goddess Cube #26 – Volcano Summit

While you're in Eldin for the Song of the Hero quest, you can grab one of the final Goddess Cubes Skyward Sword has to offer.

Once you enter the Volcano Summit area, there's a room to your right with some floating platforms. Make your way on to them and activate the Cube.

You can get this one earlier if you're playing on Hero Mode, because you have the powered-up Skyward Strike. However, you need the Mogma Mitts to get the reward, so really you'd might as well just wait and do it the platform way.

> Goddess Chest #26 – The Sky (Inside the Thunderhead)

Reward: Empty Bottle

Inside the Thunderhead, there's a small island southwest of the Isle of Songs.

Land on it and use the Mogma Mitts to dig underground. You can defeat the Moldorm inside if you want, but you don't need to. Make your way to the hole at the bottom and climb out. Use the vines you find here to reach the Goddess Chest, which contains an Empty Bottle.

Goddess Cube #27 – Lanayru Gorge

This is it! The final Goddess Cube in Skyward Sword. While you're doing the Song of the Hero quest, you'll find your way to Lanayru Gorge. In the northeast section of this area, east of the Thunder Dragon Lanayru and near where you find the Life Tree Seedling, you can find a Goddess Cube. Give it a Skyward Strike to activate it.

> Goddess Chest #27 – The Sky (Inside the Thunderhead)

Reward: Small Quiver

This Goddess Chest is on the same island as #26, located just southwest of the Isle of Songs. Dig underground with the Mogma Mitts again, but this time take the upper exit. You'll find the last Goddess Chest here, and opening it will grant you the Small Quiver. This upgrade lets you hold five extra Arrows.
