Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Modder adds in K/DA Akali from League of Legends

The amount of support for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is nothing short of astonishing, and that support is on full display in the modding community. Many modders take the established roster and replace them with some fan favorites, or characters that would be fitting replacements. While some might not think of League of Legends characters being contenders as playable fighters in the realm of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, one mod shows off how one of League's champions, Akali, can fit inside of the roster.

Akali is a ninja-like assassin from League of Legends, with her stats and storyline built around being a deadly killer with shurikens and knives. In 2018, Riot Games formed a virtual K-pop girl group, which included Akali and fellow champions Ahri, Evelynn, and Kai'Sa. This band, now called K/DA, became incredibly popular. There's been themed skins, songs, and even merchandise of K/DA released. These all ended up being the catalyst for one commissioned Super Smash Bros. Ultimate mod of Akali, complete with an outfit from K/DA.

Demonslayerx8, or DSX8 for short, is a very prominent Smash Ultimate modder. He has been commissioned to create all sorts of mods for the game, such as when he brought Final Fantasy 15's Noctis to the roster. Praised for his stellar work bringing over the characters to the game, this mod of Akali is no exception. Akali's model originates from League of Legends: Wild Rift, the mobile counterpart of the main game. This gave the modder a high-quality model to use in the process of adding her to the roster.

As seen in the screenshots and video, to fit her playstyle from League of Legends, Akali has been modded over Zelda's ninja alter-ego Sheik. Considering her acrobatics and weaponry are similar enough to Sheik's, it's pretty appropriate. The mod comes not only with her outfit from K/DA's "All Out" single, but also some unique recolors to add some diversity. Some screenshots also show off Akali's stylish helmet, which has great contrast when she's preparing and executing her Final Smash. To round things off and complete the mod, voice clips from Akali all replace the voice clips that Sheik would normally make too.

As Smash Ultimate nears the end of it's DLC support, the possibility of a League of Legends character in the game is incredibly slim. It does, however, show off the incredible work that goes into bringing certain characters into the world of Smash. Many fans still praised the mod for adding in an unexpected and beloved character, especially with how fitting the character and choice were. DSX8 is continuing on his mod work too, with the next mod being Tidus from Final Fantasy 10.
