CD Projekt Red Japan has shared a couple of new pictures of The Witcher Ronin, showcasing Geralt fighting back against a weapon-wielding, feathered monster.
"The Witcher Ronin is an original manga in which Geralt, a master of youkai extermination, travels in a Japanese-style world in search of Yuki-Onna," the tweet opened, roughly translated from Japanese, "From Tanuki, this scene in Ronin shows a glimpse of a powerful battle."

Youkai or yōkai are mythological Japanese creatures and spirits. The term encompasses monsters, ghosts, and more. Geralt hunting yōkai in this context is the equivalent of him hunting the monsters like in the main series. Those, however, are rooted in Slavic mythology.

Yuki-Onna, meanwhile, is a woman spirit who is described as "inhumanly beautiful." In Japanese mythology, she appears at night, often depicted with long black hair and blue lips, and pale skin that helps her blend into the snowy landscape. In some stories, she appears to travelers trapped in snowstorms, freezing them to death with her breath. In others, she breaks into people's homes, killing the inhabitants in their sleep. In some depictions, she's far more vampiric, draining victims of their blood.
In essence, regardless of the interpretation, she's a harrowing spirit that preys on those in cold climates. Yuki-Onna translates to Snow Woman, after all. It appears as though, in Ronin, Geralt has been tasked with taking care of this apparition, not unlike the contracts in The Witcher 3 that pit us against Nightwraiths at wells or Alghouls plaguing battlefields.
Although, what Geralt is fighting in the revealed manga page isn't entirely clear. It could be a Konoha-Tengu which is a small bird-like yōkai.
The Witcher Ronin doesn't yet have a release date but we do know that it is a 100-page, colored story from Jaki and Hataya.
