A follow-up to 2011’s Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine has been announced, sporting a new developer and a new leading actor.
Warhammer strategy fans have Total War: Warhammer 3 to look forward to in early 2022, but if you fancy a bit of 40K sci-fi action then there was an unexpected new announcement at The Game Awards 2021.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a sequel to the 2011 game and will once again be a third person action game. The announcement trailer is mostly pre-rendered, but we do get some snippets of gameplay right at the very end, that show a mixture of gunplay and mowing down hordes of enemies with a chainsword.
Captain Titus will be returning as the main character, although he won’t be played by Mark Strong this time. Instead, Clive Staten has taken over the role, who you might recognise from the Taken TV series and historical drama Vikings.
He’s not the only replacement either. Instead of Relic Entertainment, World War Z developer Saber Interactive is handling development this time. This is likely because Relic was bought out by Sega in the wake of THQ’s bankruptcy.
Curiously, Sega still holds the publishing rights for the first Space Marine game, as it released an anniversary edition only a few months back in September. Saber Interactive is part of the Embracer Group, which also owns THQ Nordic, but Focus Entertainment is handling publishing duties for the sequel.

The official website doesn’t reveal much else about the game, with a release date still to be shared. What we do know is that it’s in development for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
It feels like Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive missed a trick not casting Henry Cavill instead, given he’s an unapologetic fan of the Warhammer series. Although it does seem he’s more interested in the fantasy side of the franchise, rather than 40K.
