Several of the major announcements from Gamescom opening night were not about new titles, but new content for old titles. On top of the first DLC for Doom Eternal, there was also the official release date announcement for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. The newest expansion promises to delve into the minutia and details of Azeroth’s never before explored afterlife.
While the vastness of the new expansion is certainly exciting, many veteran World of Warcraft players have stuck to digging into the specifics of new content. With every new patch, explorers, secret hunters, and dataminers diligently plumb the game’s depths to discover what new items can be obtained. But sometimes getting one of the new additions is such a puzzling task that it requires a lot of trial and error by several community members.

Some of the bigger efforts by players to uncover the hidden secrets (and glitches) of World of Warcraft are truly astounding. While it is unlikely they will get more than a passing mention in the upcoming World of Warcraft animated series, if that, their efforts go a long way to helping people play the game. Case in point: the secret hunters trying to find out how to unlock the secret battle pet Jenafur. This battle pet was datamined from a previous patch, and for almost a full year, players have been trying to figure out how to get her.
Jenafur is a secret companion that players can unlock in World of Warcraft. This is not the sort of companion the World of Warcraft Companion App is named for, but rather a battle pet, like the kind that can be used by Hunters and Warlocks. At first glance, it may seem like Jenafur would be a Hunter pet, but some of her abilities, which seem to tie her to the Old Gods of Azeroth, give rise to doubt, and make her all the more intriguing.
The step by step guide to unlocking Jenafur is not yet complete, and what is currently there is pretty cryptic. The start of the quest seems to be talking to the ghost night elf Amara Lunastar, who mentions she has not been able to care for her cat. Then players have to head to Kharazan and that’s where the next steps fall apart. There are several food items that can be found and placed in Kharazan after talking to Amara, but the order, pattern, or anything about how they must be placed is unknown. Keep in mind, this is all the data compiled by World of Warcraft data hunters after 11 months, and WOW players can accomplish amazing things when they put their minds to it. One Shadowlands beta tester hit level 50 after just three hours, and that’s on the lower end of the spectrum of crazy WOW accomplishments.
The fact that several secret hunters still haven’t uncovered much after many months of searching speaks to the obscure nature of the quest. One wouldn’t think that it’s more difficult to find a cat in WOW than to get an alpaca battle mount, but that’s the way it is. The guide to Jenafur is still being updated, so players can see quickly if any new progress is made.
World of Warcraft is available for PC, with the Shadowlands DLC coming on October 27th 2020 for PC.
