Zelda Fan Shows Off Impressive Themed Cupcakes

The Legend of Zelda series has been around for more than 20 years, and many of its fans have used that time to create tributes to the games. Recently, one fan decided to pour their energy and dedication into making and decorating a batch of Legend of Zelda-themed cupcakes, complete with faux-pixel art designs captured in layers of icing.

This isn't the first time a Legend of Zelda fan has shared a tribute in a fleeting medium like sand or food, but it may be one of the most delicious-looking. Redditor ExMachina97 has created 12 distinct cupcakes with few repeated designs, and each topping appears to be more complex and charming than the last.

On the top row, the cupcake designs appear to depict a Legend of Zelda Guardian eye, a pink Hibiscus flower, the decal found on the Hylian Shield, and a pixel art Rupee. The middle row shows the Master Sword's hilt, a pixel art portrait of Link himself, the words "happy birthday!", and another Guardian eye. Finally, the third row features another Hibiscus flower, a pixel art heart filled in with blood-red icing, a pixel art Blue Potion, and lastly another Hylian Shield decal.

All of these designs are meticulously captured in colorful icing, with sharp edges on the faux-pixel art to make it resemble low-resolution graphics, such as those found in early Legend of Zelda games. Each cupcake also features a flat expanse of brightly colored background icing to make the design pop. These backgrounds include the three primary colors, a bright shade of green, and an almost metallic shade of brown that appears to be reserved for the Guardian eye designs. This decision may have been made to make the Guardian cupcakes look a little more like the ancient machines created by the Sheikah.

As of writing, these cupcakes appear to have been very well received by other Zelda fans. ExMachina97's work has been showered in compliments, with one user even hoping the cupcakes had been framed rather than consumed as they were deemed too cute to eat. Another user noted the cupcakes appeared to have been made with marzipan and expressed that marzipan is difficult to work with, but the results speak for themselves. Other Legend of Zelda fans have searched for–and sometimes found–characters and designs from Legend of Zelda in real life in the past. These cupcakes are new additions to a long and impressive list.
