A new rumor is once again circulating that Nintendo is set to reveal a new Switch model later this year.
The report (via Bloomberg) cites “people familiar with the plan” noting the new Switch model will be more powerful, sport a 7-inch OLED Samsung display, and be capable of outputting 4K resolution when docked on a TV.
The sources noted that Nintendo is using a Samsung display that is targeting an initial monthly target of just shy of a million units, and will reportedly be sent out to manufacturers to assemble sometime in July.
“The OLED panel will consume less battery, offer higher contrast and possibly faster response time when compared to the Switch’s current liquid-crystal display,” said Yoshio Tamura, co-founder of display consultancy DSCC.
Nintendo and Samsung representatives declined to comment on the story. As recently as March of this year, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said they have no plans to announce a new model, noting the release of various game-themed versions were coming, alongside continued excellent sales.
