For a guide on everything that unlocks in the post-game content, we've got it all listed right here so you can explore all of the new features and grab yourself some new monsties.

High Rank Monsters and Monster Dens

High Rank monsters are only available in the post-game content, opening up a whole new Monsterpedia section. These monsters are a lot tougher than their normal counterparts and drop higher-quality monster parts. A High Rank monster will always have its name in red when it is encountered in battle/ in the Subquest log.

High Rank Monster dens will begin appearing throughout the world. These new dens are ruby-colored and will only ever contain High Rank monsters.

Rare High Rank Monster Dens will also begin to appear. These dens are the same color as the Rare Low Rank Monster Dens, so make sure you know what you're walking into. (As you approach the den, it will tell you which kind it is.)

High Rank Armor and Weapons

With all those new high quality monster parts you can get from High Rank monsters, there is a whole range of improved armor and weapons available to be forged and upgraded at the Smithy. There's also other high quality armor and weapons that have been added that made from materials that can only be obtained in the post-game content.

New Monsters and Eggs

New monster variants become available in the post-game content, such as Pink Rathian and Azure Rathalos. Their eggs can be found in Rare High Rank Monster Dens and you can sometimes find them in these dens too, as well as in the Elder's Lair (which we'll get to further down).

Additionally, the eggs of monsters that you encountered near the end of the game such as Deviljho and Bazelgeuse, will begin to appear in Rare Monster Dens in all areas. The eggs of Royal Monsters appear to appear in their native locales too, such as Gammoth eggs suddenly being found in Loloska Rare Monster Dens. Check out our complete egg guide if you're after a certain monstie egg.

Elder's Lair

The Elder's Lair is a new location that can be accessed by speaking to the Elder of Mahana Village near the Forbidden Grounds Altar catavan fast travel point. These areas contain a series of trial areas, where you must complete certain objectives in order to progress to the next area.

The monsters in the Elder's Lair are all High Rank and some of the new variant monsters can also be fought here.

New Subquests

A whole new range of Subquests become available in the post-game content to offer even greater challenges. These new Subquests involve High Rank monsters, adding in High Rank Subquest Dens, and also require you to gather new items that you can only find once you've completed the game.

New Rare Items to Gather

There are new rare items that you can gather throughout the world to be used in the forging of higher quality armor and weapons, as well as for completing new subquests. Even if you think you have exhausted an area of its materials, you better get gathering again to get some of the new items.

Increased Market NPC Inventory

You may have noticed while playing that the items for sale at Market NPCs were rather limited, though the range did increase as you accessed new towns and villages. However, once you have completed the game, the range of wares sold by the merchants will increase, making it much easier for you to stock up on all the necessities.

Change Battle Buddies

Remember all those wonderful characters you met throughout the storyline who joined you in battle? In the post-game content, you can pick and choose who you want to accompany you as a Battle Buddy (if anyone), making battles a little easier as you'll have a helping hand. We have a guide right here on how to change your Battle Buddy.
