As we previously reported, a rare Kirby e-reader card has been discovered – and collectors want to get their hands on it. When we last had a look at the eBay auction, it was shocking enough to see that the bidding had reached already $6500. Yet in the final three days of the auction, it shot up even more.
The card, listed as "2002 E3 Kirby eReader Card – 1st Place Card (The Rarest eReader Card of all!!!)" has finally sold – and eventually went for an eyewatering $10,600 USD. This was the result of 40 bids over the course of just 7 days, with 15 collectors all vying for the card.

So what makes the card worth ten grand? Well, it was part of a promotion at E3 2002, where over 100 cards were given out on the show floor. They came in three variants: runner up, second place, and first place. Using the e-reader would reveal which card you had, and it would then be redeemed for a prize. There were only 10 first place cards distributed, and of course, they were meant to be handed back in for the reward. It is possible that this was the only card to not be redeemed, and leave the convention hall.
While the selling price of this single card might be shocking, this is far from the worst offender. Earlier this month, a copy of Super Mario 64 sold for a staggering $1.5 million; the most a video game has ever sold for at auction. This was around the same time that a copy of The Legend of Zelda on NES went for $870,000.
The "lucky" winner has not yet come forward to tell the world of their purchase. In fact, everyone who placed a bid on the e-reader card has actually opted to remain anonymous.
