Diablo 2 Resurrected is still a month or so away from its September 23 release, but lots of gamers had a chance to dive into the resurrected experience for the first time this weekend during some beta testing for the game. The game still captures the essence of the 20+ year old original release and that includes some mechanics that newer fans of the franchise may be unfamiliar with.
One thing that hasn't changed is the loot aspect of the series. Diablo 2 Resurrected players will be racing around slaying zombies and all kind of other monsters and picking up the gold, potions, and items that those mobs drop. Unlock a lot of modern looters, Diablo 2 actually requires a bit of work on the player's side (regardless of class) to figure out what the found items are and what they do before they can begin gaining the full benefits of them.

That said, loot is obviously incredibly important to the Diablo 2 experience and players will need to identify the items they're picking up in order to improve their character's stats or decide if it's something that should be sold. There's a pretty easy way to do this, but it may just be a bit of an adjustment for some players…
To identify an item in Diablo, players need to use a Scroll of Identify and target the unidentified item. Luckily, Scrolls of Identify are fairly common drops in the game and during our first few hours with the beta we picked up more than enough of them to identify any special loot that had dropped during our grinding. If players find themselves without a Scroll of identify in their inventory, it shouldn't take long for another one to drop once they head out and get into some fights.
That's about all there is to it. It's one extra step, but it's not really so bad (assuming players are able to hang on to a handful of Scrolls of Identify or Tomes of Identify). The Scroll can be purchased from magical vendors, so players in a hurry should keep that option in mind when it isn't dropping for them.
Alternatively, players can have items identified by Deckard Cain in town. This action will be free if players free Cain themselves or will cost 100 gold per item if they did not.
Be sure to check back for more Diablo 2 Resurrected guides, news, and updates as the game's September 23 release date approaches. Until then, stay awhile and listen.
Diablo 2 Resurrected will be available September 23 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
