In addition to fighting on a giant chessboard, you will also need to recall your fight with the Queen's Guard, as those robotic warriors will make their return to protect The Queen. Let's take a look at each of The Queen's attacks and mechanics, and how you can avoid them.

The Queen Walkthrough

The arena in which you fight the queen is periodically converted into a circle with a death zone around the edge, which will instantly kill any players that enter it. Certain attacks the Queen uses will change the shape of the arena between a square and circle.

As with all other fights in Delubrum Reginae, you will have to be wary of Twice-come Ruin. The Queen will inflict this debuff with certain attacks, and getting two stacks of Twice-come Ruin will inflict Doom, which will instantly kill you. Avoid the Queen's attacks as much as possible throughout the fight.

Listed below are each of The Queen's general attacks that she will use throughout the fight.

  • Empyrean Iniquity: This attack damages all party members, and can't be avoided. Be prepared with AoE heals and shields like Shake it Off and Passage of Arms.
  • Cleansing Slash: The Queen will target the main Tank and deal a large amount of damage to them. Additionally, this attack will apply a Bleed and Doom debuff, both of which can be cured with Esuna. Make sure healers are prepared to Esuna and heal the main Tank when Cleansing Slash goes off.

    • Additionally, this attack will change the arena into a circle and will remain as such until the Queen uses Queen's Edict.

  • Northswain's Glow: The Queen will spawn glowing red dots around the arena. After a few seconds, these dots will start moving in a straight line. If any of the lines collide, a large AoE attack will take place at the collision point. To avoid this attack, predict where the lines will collide and move accordingly.
  • Heaven's Wrath: The Queen will create a blue line running down the arena that will explode after a few seconds. When the line explodes, it will push back all players on either side of the line towards the edge of the arena. To avoid this attack, stand on the side of the line that has more space between itself and the edge to avoid being knocked into the death zone. You will want to be as close to the center of the arena as possible, to give yourself more space between the line and edge.
  • Judgement Blade: The Queen will teleport to one side of the arena and begin charging a dash attack. This attack will cut straight down the middle of the arena and will deal additional damage to a single half of the arena. Which half is targeted depends on which side of The Queen is glowing when she begins charging this attack. For example, if The Queen's left side is glowing while she charges the dash, the left side of the arena will be unsafe. Move to the safe side of the arena to avoid this attack.
  • Gods Save The Queen: The Queen will deal high damage to all party members. Additionally, this attack is used before each time The Queen introduces new mechanics to the fight. Heal and mitigate this attack as necessary, and prepare for new mechanics.

Chess Mechanics

Luckily, you don't need to know the rules of chess to get through these mechanics. You will, however, need to know how to count.

  • Queen's Will: The Queen will convert the arena into a chessboard, reverting the arena to a square shape, and summon two untargetable Queen's Guards. Each Queen's Guard will have a number of glowing red dots on them, indicating how many tiles they intend to move forward. After a short delay, the Queen's Guards will move, then deal damage in a cross shape centering on themselves. Avoid this attack by counting how many squares the adds intend to go, and move accordingly.

    • The second time this attack is used, The Queen will use Judgement Blade quickly after the adds attack. Prepare by moving to the safe side of the arena. After Judgement Blade, The Queen will also use Gods Save The Queen, signifying the introduction of a new mechanic, Queen's Edict.

  • Queen's Edict: The Queen will convert the arena into a chessboard, then inflict Movement Edict: 2 Squares, 3 Squares, or 4 Squares on all players. This debuff will require you to move a certain amount of tiles, depending on which number you receive. For example, if The Queen inflicts Movement Edict: 3 Squares on you, you will need to move a total of three squares from the tile you started on. You will have ten seconds to do so, otherwise, you will take damage and receive a stack of Twice-come Ruin.

    • The Queen will use this attack only after she has used Queen's Will twice.
    • The next time Queen's Edict is used, it will occur at the same time as Queen's Will. This means you will need to deal with the Queen's Guard adds while making sure you move the set number of required tiles. First, count the number of squares the adds will move to identify the safe tiles. Then, quickly move to a tile that will let you move two, three, or four tiles into one of those safe spots.

Relentless Play

The Queen will summon two Queen's Guards who will perform attacks according to which Guards are summoned. These attacks are the same as the versions from the Queen's Guard fight earlier in the dungeon. For more information on these attacks, refer to our guide on the Queen's Guard.

Gunner and Warrior

The Queen's Gunner and Warrior will attack with the Automatic Turret mechanic and Bombslinger mechanic, respectively.

First, the Queen's Gunner will use Automatic Turret to summon turrets that will deal damage in a straight line. Next, while the Queen's Warrior uses Bombslinger to place bombs around the arena, the Queen will begin charging Heaven's Wrath. You will need to position yourself so that Heaven's Wrath knocks you into the correct spot to be safe from Above Board, while simultaneously remaining safe from the death zone at the edge of the arena.

Knight and Soldier

The Queen's Knight and Soldier will attack with the Double Gambit mechanic and Optimal Play mechanic, respectively.

First, the Queen's Knight will summon four untargetable adds and use Double Gambit, tethering itself to two of them. The tethered adds will be real, meaning their subsequent AoE attacks will deal damage, while the fake ones will not. After this attack finishes, the Queen will use Judgement Blade, forcing the party to one side of the arena to remain safe. After the Queen finishes using Judgement Blade, the Queen's Knight will use Optimal Play, switching its stance to either Sword Omen or Shield Omen. You will then need to dodge this attack by either moving away from or close to the Guard, depending on which stance it is in.

As the fight progresses, The Queen will continue using each of these mechanics, but will not introduce anything you haven't seen. Attacks and mechanics will start to overlap further into the fight, so remain vigilant and you'll be able to take down The Queen.
