PlayStation has announced its next showcase will be taking place a week from today but has remained quiet on what exactly viewers can expect from the show.
Summer is over and that doesn't just mean the days are about to get considerably shorter. It also means the video game release slate is starting to liven back up, as has already been demonstrated by the arrivals of games like No More Heroes 3 and Psychonauts 2. In preparation for things to really kick up a gear, PlayStation has announced its next PlayStation Showcase.
The Showcase will stream live on Thursday, September 9, 2021, via PlayStation's YouTube and Twitch channels. The blog post revealing the news doesn't give away much about what will be included in the show, though it will be 40 minutes long so should focus on a handful of upcoming games. One thing it does note is that there will be no additional information regarding the next generation of PS VR.

“[The Showcase will] include updates from PlayStation Studios and some of the industry’s most imaginative developers, for games releasing this holiday and beyond," the blog reads. Deathloop will probably make an appearance since its release date will be less than a week after the showcase, and it seems very likely that's where Death Stranding: Director's Cut's next trailer will also debut.
Hideo Kojima revealed earlier this week that the final trailer for the updated version of the hit game is done, but those waiting to see it will have to sit tight until late next week. Those comments line up perfectly with the timing of PlayStation's Showcase. Information on NBA 2K22 and Lost Judgment may also be featured with release dates for both coming very soon.
The focus will, of course, be on PlayStation's exclusives. Sony has added more studios to the PlayStation family already in 2021 as it attempts to continue its growing reputation for creating can't miss titles that can't be played anywhere else. Expect an update on Kena: Bridge of Spirits that will launch later this month, and hopefully a new trailer for Horizon: Forbidden West.
