Recently Bethesda Austin opened a Server Engineer Job Listing where the description was “Bethesda Game Studios is seeking a qualified Server Engineer to help create and improve systems for an unannounced title. Come join our experienced team of developers who have a legacy of creating AAA games. This is a terrific opportunity to work with some of the best people in the games industry.” There is no mention of a Multiplayer game in the description, but all Multiplayer games require a server engineer, and Bethesda Austin has only worked on Multiplayer games so far (DOOM 2016’s Multiplayer and Fallout 76)
The Job listing also mentioned “client-server networking optimization, integration with backend services, data authority management, game persistence” I think this might be a successor to Fallout 76. Despite launching as a flop, the game has received a bit of redemption arc. It was received very poorly at launch, but now many people have started praising it after the latest updates. I still have not played Fallout 76, but I think the successor might have some potential if it’s made carefully, and they keep all the poor reception that Fallout 76 received at launch in their minds. I’m pretty sure that this will be an Xbox Exclusive as well because of the Bethesda purchase by Xbox last year.
