Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 2 is almost here, and this time fans will go head to head with none other than Golden Frieza. While there’s a lot of excitement around the return of this most iconic of DBZ villains, this arc also serves as a chance for CyberConnect2 to add Master Roshi as a support character. It should be said that this is just speculation and in truth the odds of this actually happening are rather low. Even so, the precedent is there thanks to Master Roshi’s involvement in the story of Resurrection F and the positive reception to his announcement for Dragon Ball FighterZ.
Recent V Jump scans seem to support the idea that Goku and Vegeta will be battling Golden Frieza in DLC 2, meaning the Resurrection F arc is indeed the next step for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Though it is a bit of a stretch, many have noticed that this arc marks one of the first battles that Master Roshi has participated in since the original Dragon Ball anime concluded, stirring the theory pot for a potential new addition. If Master Roshi were to be added as a support character, how would CyberConnect2 handle his moves and techniques?

Throughout the story of Dragon Ball Z and as a result Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Master Roshi sits on the sidelines for almost every major confrontation. Though it is clear that he probably wouldn’t be much help when compared to the likes of Goku and Vegeta, he still never once steps in even when the fate of the world hangs in the balance. This rubbed many the wrong way due to how powerful Master Roshi was in the original Dragon Ball anime, and even less powerful characters like Tien made valiant sacrifices in certain moments such as the Cell Saga.
Still, because of this it makes sense that Master Roshi was just an NPC throughout the course of the game. Moving forward, though, Master Roshi takes part in quite a bit of combat throughout Dragon Ball Super, first showing what he’s made of in the Golden Frieza saga. When Frieza’s army invades Earth, Master Roshi doesn’t hesitate to step up and fend off the threat until Goku and Vegeta can arrive. He also performs incredibly well in the Tournament of Power, where it is revealed that he’s secretly been keeping up on his training.
It should first be said that while Master Roshi’s inclusion as a support character in DLC 2 is already unlikely, the odds of him being added as a playable character are even more of a pipe dream. Despite this, there is some precedent for it already within the game. Every playable character in the game has access to a transformation, those being the Saiyan’s Super Saiyan forms and Piccolo’s fusion with Nail. Master Roshi would also probably have a transformation that allows him to bulk up, but this doesn’t mean much since there are some support characters, namely Goten and Trunks, that also have transformations.
As a Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot support character, it is difficult to say whether Master Roshi would fall in the category of offensive, defensive, or special. In Dragon Ball Super he is clearly shown to take a methodical and tactical approach to combat, suggesting that he would fill either the defensive or special roles, but which one is really anyone’s guess. A special role seems to be the most fitting, as Master Roshi is never really shown taking hits for allies or anything like that given his frailty in his base form, whereas providing support to his allies in the form of teachings is something he’s always done.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
