Nintendo is Reportedly Boosting Switch Production, Asks Developers to Make Their Games 4K-Ready

Reports of a new, more powerful variant of the Nintendo Switch have been doing the rounds on the internet for a number of months now, but they’ve become much more frequent in recent weeks. Just recently, we heard about Nintendo preparing to begin production of a 4K Switch model, which is reportedly primed for an early 2021 launch, and now, another new report adds some more details on top of that.

A Bloomberg report states that Nintendo has asked its manufacturing partners to boost production of the Nintendo Switch by 20%. By August, Nintendo had ordered for roughly a total of 25 million units of the console to be produced for the current fiscal year, but with those numbers allegedly proving to be insufficient as per Nintendo’s productions, they have now kicked that up to 30 million.

Additionally, Bloomberg also reports that it has been told by various developers in the industry (under conditions of anonymity, since the matter in question is currently private) that they’ve been asked to make their games 4K ready.

Nintendo was one of several companies this year whose production, manufacturing, and distribution pipelines suffered as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in stock shortages for the Switch. They have, however, previously said that those pipelines are now recovering. Whether or not they’ve recovered enough to keep up with demand of multiple Switch SKUs remains to be seen.
