Everything we know about the PSVR 2 headset
While we already knew about the release date and cost of the PlayStation 5 PSVR 2, new details were revealed during CES 2023. I suppose you could call this the PSVR 2’s coming-out party.
When is the PSVR 2 being released?
The PSVR 2 will be released on February 23rd, 2023, with preorders starting on November 15th, 2023. The PlayStation VR2 comes in two different SKUs. The standard package includes the PlayStation VR headset, 2x PS VR2 Sense controllers, and stereo headphones, and will set you back $549.99.
There’s also a PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle, which includes everything from the standard package plus a digital code for the Horizon Call of the Mountain, for $599.99.
Regarding the headphones, during CES 2023, I’ve heard conflicting reports, with some stating the unit will ship with earbuds instead. Outside of that, I haven’t been able to confirm or deny that this is the case.

PlayStation VR2 Specifications
As for how the PSVR2 compares to the original PlayStation VR, it’s like night and day. While the PSVR relied on LED tracking by the console and a PlayStation Camera, the PSVR 2 utilizes cameras built into the headset, with eye tracking, which will provide a better experience.
The PSVR 2 will also incorporate better displays, 2,000 x 2,040 4k, compared to the 960 x 1080 displays in the original PSVR, as well as a better view of view (110° vs. 100°). Finally, HDR will also be supported.
Regardless of which bundle you purchase, both cost more than the PlayStation 5. Of course, the PSVR 2 is also useless without access to a PlayStation 5, which is still very hard to acquire. I’d imagine that PlayStation is working to address this, or perhaps the company has tempered its expectations regarding its new VR headset. It will be interesting to see how well the PlayStation VR 2 ultimately sells and how PlayStation responds.
Where to buy the PlayStation VR2
Currently, the only place to pre-order and purchase a PlayStation VR 2 is directly from the PlayStation online store. Pre-orders opened on November 15th, 2022, and both bundles are still available. So far, this has been the only place that we’ve seen that is selling the PSVR2. I’d imagine that once the official release date is here, more locations, such as Best Buy and Amazon, will also start to sell the headset. If that changes ahead of time, we’ll update this.
In addition to the PSVR 2, you can also pre-order PSVR 2 Sense Controller Charging Station, priced at $49.99. Instead of plugging in your controllers, the charging station will let you place both PSVR2 Sense Controllers onto the charging station, where you’ll be charged and ready to go for your next session.
