PUBG is REALLY leaning into its new narrative focus. First, it was the Mysteries Unknown spoof with number one host Jonathan Frakes explaining the entirety of PUBG's convoluted backstory (which was admittedly much easier to understand in this new narrative format), and then it was the Ground Zero live-action short film starring Korean actor Don Lee.
Both those were just broadcast on YouTube where anybody can post a video, but pretty soon, PUBG will be getting an official, animated show – although it's still unclear where the content will be hosted.
Krafton, owner of the PUBG IP, has just announced that it's hired Adi Shankar to help create and produce an upcoming animated series based on PUBG. You might remember Shankar from another video game adaptation on Netflix where he helped develop and produce the hit Castlevania series.

And believe it or not, Shankar is a big PUBG fan.
“As a player, I've been crushing the competition in the Battlegrounds since PUBG released in 2017. I’m grateful to Krafton for the trust and confidence they’ve placed in me to execute my vision as a filmmaker and I’m excited to embark on this journey together," said Adi Shankar. “To me, this animated project represents another step in the evolution of mending the torched bridge between the games industry and Hollywood. I look forward to revealing to everybody what winning a chicken dinner looks like.”
PUBG is now Shankar's fourth video game adaptation he’s currently working on. Shankar acquired the rights to make a Devil May Cry series soon after he started on Castlevania with Capcom, he's writing scripts for an adaptation of indie sensation Hyper Light Drifter, and he's got an upcoming Far Cry Netflix series in Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix.
And if they’re even half as good as Castlevania, then they’ll be well worth watching.
