Assassin's Creed fans have a lot riding on Ubisoft's big gamble. After changing the gameplay and design from an action-adventure game to an RPG in the latest trilogy, there's going to be another huge overhaul for the next big expansion. In the publisher's own words, this next installment, Assassin's Creed Infinity, will "guide, grow, evolve, and define the future of Assassin's Creed." The verbiage from the disclosures seems to indicate that the next Assassin's Creed game is intended to be the last.

Needless to say, everything in the franchise hinges upon this next game. It's an understatement to say that this is hotly anticipated among the fan base. Those who loved the games have every right to be worried while those who feel it is time for a big change to keep it fresh are excited. Either way, gamers can't deny how core this series is to the video game industry and it will be important to stay on top of the latest updates.
Most industry experts are guessing that Assassin's Creed Infinity is at least three years away from the announcement in 2021. The studio itself hasn't offered an estimation at all, so this is merely speculation from outsiders based on the size and scope of the project and the speed that prior games have been in development for.
It's safe to say that this game isn't right around the corner. When Assassin's Creed Infinity even has a ballpark time of arrival, that information will be right here. Make no mistake, this is very early to be talking about the game, but Ubisoft was basically forced to reveal the game's development after a leak.
Unfortunately, what comes along with a game that is very far away from development is a trailer that is also pretty far from being released to the public. In fact, Ubisoft's YouTube channel yields zero results when searching for Infinity as of this writing.

Even if players will need to wait until about 2023 for a trailer, a video detailing updates could happen any day now and when it does, that link will be accessible here, so stay tuned!
There is a good amount of information from the latest official release about Assassin's Creed Infinity. And much of it will shock dedicated fans to the core as it's going to be a much larger change than simply going from action-adventure to RPG.
Assassin's Creed Infinity is built up to end the process of "[passing] the baton from game to game." In other words, the intent appears to make this the very last game in the series. It sounds final, but perhaps it is not, as Jason Schreier reports that the game will "contain multiple settings with room to expand to others in the months and years following its debut."

So it looks like future additions will be created as expansions instead of standalone games, which could be a nice break on people's pocketbooks. And it does allow for the story, for better or for worse, to continue and for the overall plot to progress past its current zany state.
Assassin's Creed Infinity will also be a live service style of presentation. Latest Ubisoft additions have notoriously required on being online to play already, even with single-player modes, so this will simply make this reliance on the internet official. For reference, games like Destiny, Marvel's Avengers, and Anthem are all live service games. Assassin's Creed games have had multiplayer modes before, so it could be as simple as a few cute PvPvE maps, or perhaps something even more expansive.
It's unknown whether players will be able to play alone or if other gamers will be present in the world. The word "massively" has been used more than once, so anybody hoping for an Assassin's Creed MMO isn't entirely ruled out just yet.
Ubisoft is not a single location outfit, so it's natural to wonder which of their studios will be working on the project. They have announced who all is going to be involved in making the game and they've tagged two of their two most prestigious studios.

For Assassin's Creed Infinity, the company has opted to use Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec, heavy hitters with a ton of name recognition. Ubisoft Quebec is known for a few Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six games, Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Odyssey, and the studio's latest surprise hit, Immortals Fenyx Rising. Ubisoft Monreal has hits that include Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs, and various Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell games.
It will be fascinating to see how these studios work together. Ubisoft has made a commitment to modernize its industry practices to reflects its values and allow for remote participation, so there is a great deal riding on this experiment.
Don't miss the forest for the trees, the people in charge are the ones that make or break this title. Assassin's Creed Infinity, appropriately, will be led by accomplished veterans from within the ranks of Ubisoft.
Marc-Alexis Côté has been tagged as the executive director. He founded Ubisoft Quebec and has done work with Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Syndicate, and Odyssey. He partners with the ten-year brand director Étienne Allonier from Ubisoft Montreal.
