Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Siege of Paris – How to Beat the Hunter (Le Trois Pignons Mystery)

Quick Links

There are many mysteries to solve in Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Siege of Paris DLC, and many of them involve battles against surprisingly tough foes. Whereas players have grown used to dominating most of the enemies Eivor comes across, Francia has some stout warriors in unexpected places. While exploring the starting region of Melunois, players may come across a suspicious chest marked as a mystery. Opening this starts a boss fight with the Hunter, a Francia noble who's much tougher than he looks. For players that find themselves struggling to put him down, here are a few tips.

This mystery is found near Le Trois Pignons in the Siege of Paris DLC for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, an area that is said to be around power level 200. Despite this, The Hunter is power level 250, so he can easily defeat players that aren't prepared for him. As with most things in the game, players can go about defeating him with brute force, ranged combat, stealth, or a mix of the three.

The Hunter is a formidable combatant in melee, but what makes this fight so daunting is his use of terrain and traps to throw Eivor off. Players that look carefully on the ground will notice that explosives have been set up, and The Hunter will start the fight by peppering the player with Arbalest bolts.

To get close, carefully maneuver around the traps (or shoot them with the bow to get rid of them entirely) and chase him down. Once engaged, he'll spend more time running away than trying to fight.

Eventually, the Hunter will switch from his Arbalest to a sword, at which point combat becomes a bit trickier. Many of his attacks are unblockable, so focus on dodging instead and use Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Brush With Death skill to get some good hits in. Finally, if The Hunter is up on a ledge, using abilities like Harpoon Impalement or Rush and Bash to throw him off will do heavy damage.

Arbalest fire is likely to keep the player pinned, but there are a few ways to use it to Eivor's advantage. With the Missile Reversal skill, it's possible to kill The Hunter without even moving away from the chest, although this is difficult because of how fast the Arbalest fires.

Putting some distance between Eivor and The Hunter will allow the player a bit more time to react. In between shots, fire some arrows at The Hunter for some extra damage. If the player happens to run out, simply holding down the block button and blocking an arrow will actually refill Assassin's Creed Valhalla players' ammunition.

The easiest way to beat The Hunter is to not fight him at all. Although it may seem like he materializes out of nowhere when Eivor opens the chest, Odin's Sight reveals that he is actually hiding in a bush the entire time. Head up the cliff that overhangs his hideout and slowly drop down.

Eventually, players should be given the option to stealth attack The Hunter from where they are hanging above. The window to successfully assassinate him is very small, but players that can manage the timing can take him out in one lethal blow.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
