Back 4 Blood’s Beta Became One Of Steam’s Most Active Games Immediately

Back 4 Blood's beta hasn't even been available for 24 hours yet but it already has landed itself as one of Steam's most active games – this Left 4 Dead spiritual successor is a hit.

It peaked at 88,403 players according to SteamDB, putting it into the top ten currently most played Steam games. It launched at 8pm GMT in the middle of the week and so this will most likely spike now that we're approaching the weekend.

This is the early access beta which is running until August 9 but another will be taking place from the 12th to the 16th. That one, however, is entirely open. Both have two PvE missions, all the game's weapons, PvP, and five out of eight cleaners.

While it peaked at 88,403 players, it still retains an impressive 45,446 as of writing this. That's in the middle of a Friday while people are no doubt at work. If you're working from home, though, there's nothing like a cheeky bif of co-operative zombie slaying.

We wrote up a preview of our thoughts on Back 4 Blood after the beta went live, praising its familiarity to its roots while celebrating what it brings to the table all these years later.

"Left 4 Dead still holds up against modern favorites, so when we saw Turrtle Rock announce a spiritual successor, I found myself asking, "Is this really necessary?" And the answer is an emphatic yes."
