Bandai Namco Announces New Ace Combat In Development With ILCA

Today's biggest presentation might have been the Pokemon Direct earlier this morning, but let's not forget about Bandai Namco and its ongoing celebration of Ace Combat's 25th anniversary. The flight combat game series had its own direct-style presentation this morning (or evening if you live in Japan) where they made quite a few announcements.

First came courtesy of Project Aces producer Kazutoki Kono, who told eager Ace Combat fans that a brand new Ace Combat game is in production.

“We’ve started work on a new project in the Ace Combat series,” Kono said (with translation courtesy of Gematsu). “Project Aces staff will of course continue to be involved in the development of this new project, but as we celebrate 25 years and three million copies sold, we’ve come to understand we have many fans of all tastes. Our small team can’t handle it all alone, so we’re looking to expand the Ace Combat team in a big way.”

Not only is Project Aces hiring for this new game, but it's also teaming up with ILCA, the developers behind Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. No further details were provided, but fans have been clamoring for a remake of Ace Combat 4, and ILCA is making a name for itself by remaking a Pokemon’s fourth-gen games. Perhaps the two are related.

In addition, Bandai Namco surprise-dropped some new Ace Combat 7 DLC. The Japan Air Self Defense Force DLC will be a free download available later this month that basically gives historical liveries to Ace Combat 7's Japanese planes. The F-15J will get the Komatsu Special Marking 2017 skin, the F-2A will get the 6SQ 60th Anniversary Skin, and the F-4E will get the 301SQ F-4 Final Year 2020, which was worn during the F-4E's final flight for the Japanese Air Defense Force.

And at the end of the trailer, Bandai Namco promises at least two more DLC are coming to Ace Combat 7 before they're done.

The Japan Air Self Defense Force DLC will arrive on August 31.
