Battlefield 2042 Won’t Have Ranked On Launch

Battlefield 2042 launches October 22 but it won't come with a ranked mode. Ripple Effect Studios' senior designer Justin Wiebe stated that it will play it by ear as to whether it ever gets one.

"There's no plan to have any kind of ranked or eSport mode at launch," Wiebe told Battlefield Nation, "This is something that obviously we want to hear more about from the community. If that's something that's important to the community – we'd like to hear about it and we'll kind of see what happens after that."

As the interviewer pointed out, players will be able to use Battlefield Portal to make their own custom eSports maps and modes. In spite of a lack of ranked mode, the community could keep an unofficial one afloat in the meantime.

Battlefield Portal can be used for a variety of things. You can pit soldiers from Bad Company 3 against the futuristic troopers of 2042 or you could even feasibly remake old maps from 1942 in the style of 2042 if that's your jam. The world – or rather, Battlefield Portal – is your oyster.

It's not unusual for a Battlefield game to lack an eSports or ranked mode. However, with Wiebe's comments about it being something that could come later if the community wants, then it's not out of the question for 2042. At least, not in the long run.

With that being said, 2042 won't feature a single-player campaign – it's all multiplayer.
