Battlefield 5 is out on Game Pass. For new players or players returning to the game after a long hiatus as player numbers go up, this list of the best guns should give you an advantage on the battlefield.

The meta in Battlefield 5 has well and truly settled. With no changes made to the game for some time, experienced players definitely have their favorite choice of weapons and load-outs. Brand new players need to know what's good if they're going to keep up.

Best Weapons For The Assault Class

  • STG-44
  • M1 Garand
  • Karabin 1938M

Run and gun, either with short-range submachine guns or assault rifles. The assault class is your typical FPS style of play and one that new players to the Battlefield franchise might feel the most comfortable with.

STG-44

The old reliable. This will be a nice and easy gun for new Battlefield 5 players to use and one that is worth picking up. It has relatively low recoil, except the occasional random kick, and is fully automatic. Can go toe to toe with most other weapons in the game. Just an all-around top choice.

M1 Garand

Battlefield 5 is a game set in the Second World War, so if you don't mention the M1 Garand then what's even the point? This iconic semi-auto assault rifle gets the treatment it deserves in Battlefield 5, with a high damage rate and, of course, that satisfying ping.

Karabin 1938M

Semi-auto rifles are super satisfying in Battlefield 5, and the Karabin is pretty close to the M1 Garand in terms of viability. We might even recommend the Karabin over the Garand, mostly because of its extremely low recoil, high damage, and its effectiveness with a 3x scope. You can outgun an STG at almost any range, as long as you hit your shots.

Best Weapons For The Medic Class

  • Type 2A
  • Welgun
  • Jungle Carbine

There is only really one weapon that dominates the Medic class: the Type 2A. However, for the purposes of this list, we'll go into a little more detail as to why this one stands out, and whether there are any other options for the class that are fun to use.

Type 2A

You will die to this gun. A lot. It's favored by sweaty players who like to get up close and personal. It has massive damage output and can sit multiple enemies down before you have to reload. This gun is basically like the Hellriegel in Battlefield 1, with a similar number of rounds (51!) and a fast rate of fire. Either join 'em or lose 'em. The Type 2A is easily one of the most popular guns in Conquest.

Welgun

Not quite as full-on as the Type 2A, the Welgun is recommended for those who might want to slow down just a little bit. You can pace yourself out with a better versatility at medium ranges, but still have enough firepower to deal with enemies up close. There is a close tie between the EMP and the Welgun. The EMP might put out more damage, but the Welgun is easier to control in terms of recoil.

Jungle Carbine

Sometimes games aren't just about picking the most meta gun you can. Sometimes you're meant to just have fun. The Jungle Carbine is just that. This bolt-action rifle is a lot of fun, with the potential to take a helmet straight off the enemy's head. You get long-range as Medic by sacrificing other gun attachments like a Grenade Launcher, but it's worth it.

Best Weapons For The Support Class

  • Lewis Gun

The Support class just didn't get much love in Battlefield 5. Even now, years after the game's release, the class feels weak in comparison to something like the Medic. Of course, this is all subjective, and if you want to play Support, you do you. That being said, if you're going to play it, it's got to be the Lewis Gun.

Lewis Gun

The Lewis Gun might stick out as one of the best all-around weapons in the game, so even the Support class isn't fantastic, this gun is worth picking up. It's extremely versatile, with the potential for a long-range spray with a decent scope, as well as a close-range hip fire that will outgun your opponents with dozens of bullets.

Best Weapons For The Recon Class

  • ZH-29
  • Krag-Jørgensen
  • Trench Carbine

If there's one thing Battlefield 5 did alright, it was its sniping. Sniping in both Battlefield 5 and Battlefield 1 is extremely satisfying, and it's one of the reasons why the Recon class is so fun to play…as long as you can hit your shots. Here are the best guns for the Recon class.

ZH-29

This self-loading rifle is a monster for two hit kills, putting out 52 damage a hit. The damage is balanced by high recoil and a pretty slow fire rate, but that won't matter much if you can hit your shots. We'd recommend sticking a Detachable Magazine on this one, just to give a bit of boost to the reload speed.

Krag-Jørgensen

Our favorite sniper in Battlefield 5, and not just because of its awesome name. Even though the base damage is very low, its reliability at pretty much all ranges means you can steadily do damage as long as you don't miss. A two-shot kill at most ranges. Very capable of pinging off heads from any distance. Overall, a lot of fun to use.

Trench Carbine

Just because you're playing Recon it doesn't mean you need to take a sniper. The Trench Carbine is an incredibly reliable automatic pistol that allows you to play a more run-and-gun playstyle while also making use of the Recon's skillset. It's closely tied with the PO8, but the Trench just takes the crown due to its larger magazine.
