Following the proper unveil of Starfield earlier today, Bethesda has gone on to say Starfield is like Skyrim in space and a Han Solo simulator.
The new teases come via Bethesda Game Studios executive producer Todd Howard and Bethesda Managing Director Ashley Cheng, who both said Starfield is like Skyrim in space and a Han Solo simulator, respectively.
“It’s like ‘Skyrim’ in space,” said Howard describing the company’s first new IP in 25 years in an interview with WaPo. He followed up with noting the studio knew if they did a new IP, it would be science fiction.
“We’ve known for a while that if and when we do something else, it would be science fiction,” Howard said. He added that it had to be named that as well. “There were no other names [we considered],” he said. “It had to be ‘Starfield.’”
Cheng followed up with “For me, Starfield is the Han Solo simulator. Get in a ship, explore the galaxy, do fun stuff.”
She added that Bethesda has renewed excitement due to working on a new IP. “I love Fallout,” she said. “But after seven years of Fallout, it’s a little nice to slip away to be working on something so new and fresh.”
Starfield is launching for Windows PC and Xbox Series X|S on November 11, 2022.
