Nintendo surprise dropped a Direct Mini: Partner Showcase this morning, presenting titles like the free-to-play World of Tanks: Blitz that released on Switch today. Another game it revealed with more time leading up to its release is Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions, which will let players take the guise of characters from the universe spawned by John Avildsen’s iconic 1976 film Rocky sometime in spring 2021.
Developed and published by Survios, also responsible for The Walking Dead: Onslaught and other VR titles like Westworld: Awakening, Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions is an “arcade boxing experience” primarily focused on players using “robust, hard-hitting boxing mechanics,” according to its official description on Nintendo’s website. It will also include a minigame “montage” training mode and local multiplayer for up to two players.

The upcoming game’s headlining playable characters will be Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky Balboa and Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis Creed from the Creed film series with a third entry currently in development. Supplementary “legends” from the series will also be playable, including Apollo Creed, Ivan Drago, Victor Drago, and Clubber Lang.
Survios already has experience developing interactive experiences in the Rocky universe thanks to the 2018 VR title Creed: Rise to Glory, so it should be interesting to see how they handle a more straight-forward arcade boxing game on the Switch. Fans of the hybrid console can also look forward to games like Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend, announced during the Partner Showcase and set to release later this year.
Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions is scheduled to release spring 2021 on Nintendo Switch.
