Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is one of the biggest games of the year, bringing the annualized franchise forward onto next-gen hardware. And while the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Cold War are bound to be more graphically impressive than their current-gen counterparts, Treyarch has now given fans an idea of what to expect from the game performance-wise.

In an interview with Venture Beat, Treyarch Co-Studio Head Dan Bunting revealed some key details about Black Ops Cold WarThe game is capable of 4K resolution at a 120hz refresh rates, meaning it should look great and has the capability of running exceptionally smoothly. It’s important to remember, though, that 120hz doesn’t mean the game is locked at 120 FPS, just that it has the capability of running that well.

“We want to make sure that the framerate is responsive,” Bunting said,” and that it feels like there’s nothing on the technical side preventing you from having a good time.” Next-gen hardware should also reduce load times and ease transitions between cinematics and gameplay, the article states, so there should be less time loading and more time in the action.

Judging by the Cold War reveal trailer, which was captured on a PS5, the game looks visually impressive, as one would expect from a Call of Duty game. Equally interesting is how the current-gen versions of the game will perform. Modern Warfare is a visually impressive title as it is, but if Treyarch is looking to top it, it may need to worry how well the Xbox One and PS4 run the game.

Of course, Treyarch is big, and there are multiple other studios working on the game as well, so current-gen versions may not encounter any issues. There were rumors leading up to the game’s reveal that it may have had a troubled development cycle, and while some fans still have those fears, Cold War’s beta should be indicative of whether or not fans need to worry.

Not much has been revealed about the game yet, and while it’s comforting that next-gen players will have a visually impressive experience to look forward to, fans still have many questions. For the most part, fans should know what to expect from Call of Duty’s multiplayer, but the campaign seems to be a bit of a departure from what has appeared in the past, though fans will have to wait a little longer to find out for sure.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War releases November 13 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are also planned.
