Death Stranding Director’s Cut Trailer Shows New Story Missions And Delivery Support Gadgets

Kojima Productions debuted a trailer for Death Stranding Director's Cut during Sony's latest State of Play – revealing several big changes coming to PS5 and a release date of September 24. Some of the biggest upgrades include new melee combat mechanics, new weapons, and a whole slew of new story missions.

Death Stranding was a divisive game when it launched last year, and the Director's Cut doesn't look to radically change up the experience. Instead, expect a few quality of life improvements and plenty of new content to work through. Here's the full list of enhancements coming to Death Stranding Director's Cut:

  • New Battles
  • Advanced Combat Mechanics (Such as improved melee combat)
  • New Weapons
  • Firing Range
  • Additional Delivery Support (Cargo Catapult, Support Skeleton, Jump Ramps, Etc)
  • New Story Missions
  • Fragile Circuit Racing Mode

"From legendary game creator Hideo Kojima comes a genre-defying experience, now expanded and remastered for the PlayStation 5 console in the definitive Director’s Cut," PlayStation said. "Take on the trials of Sam Bridges with advanced combat, explore new locations with extra missions and minigames, experience an extended storyline, and much more."

Death Stranding wasn't the only impressive showcase during Sony's State of Play. Sony opened the event by showing off Moss Book 2 – a sequel to the popular VR game from years ago. We also saw nine full minutes of Deathloop gameplay, along with a closer look at Lost Judgment.

With Sony skipping out on E3 2021, this was the first time in a while that we've heard directly from the company about its upcoming releases. Death Stranding heading to PS5 is bound to be exciting for Kojima fans, but there's no doubt Deathloop was the star of the show. Both Death-related games are launching later this September – so now would be a good time to start saving up.

Death Stranding Director's Cut is now available for pre-order and will launch for PS5 on September 24.
