Here are the best random weapon rolls to search for.

Updated July 14th, 2021, by Charles Burgar: We've updated this guide to include PvE and PvP roll recommendations for every weapon in this guide. More in-depth roll discussions, better formatting, and a table of contents have been added to make this article as easy to read as possible. Happy hunting.

Archon's Thunder

Our third and final Iron Banner weapon, Archon's Thunder is a High Impact Machine Gun that just edges out the Seventh Seraph SAW in terms of stats.

Best PvE Roll

Rampage is going to be your damage perk in the right column, with the left column a toss-up between Field Prep and Surplus. Otherwise, Archon's Thunder isn't particularly noteworthy.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Arrowhead Brake Tactical Mag Field Prep Rampage

Best PvP Roll

Archon's Thunder isn't particularly great in PvP due to its High-Impact Frame, although its perk pool makes it unique when compared to other Machine Guns. Mulligan and Snapshot Sights improve this weapon's ammo economy and ADS speeds, making it much easier to use in virtually every situation.

Borrowed Time

Exit Strategy? Is that you? No, it's yet another Aggressive Frame Submachine Gun to go along with Cold Front, Ikelos, and Extraordinary Rendition, and it's the Gambit Playlist reward. And just like most playlist weapons, Borrowed Time comes with every possible perk under the sun.

Best PvE Roll

Overflow, Surplus, or Frenzy are great in the first column, while Frenzy, Rampage, or One For All are good in the second. But if you really need a Solar Submachine Gun, I hasten to point out that Banshee just straight-up sells the MIDA Mini-tool, and it's a Lightweight Submachine Gun too.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Chambered Compensator Ricochet Rounds Surplus Frenzy

Best PvP Roll

Similar to Multimach CQC, Borrowed Time is a weapon that can achieve an absurdly high effective range. This is thanks to the gun's innate zoom stat of 15 and the ability to roll with Rangefinder. When paired with Tap the Trigger, Borrowed Time is a surprisingly capable SMG that encroaches on Auto Rifle distances.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Smallbore Ricochet Rounds Rangefinder Tap The Trigger

Crown-Splitter

The first of the reborn class-specific Swords, Crown-Splitter is closer to a one-hit killing machine than a rapid-slicing blade of death like Falling Guillotine. If you're a Titan main and have access to the Energy Accelerant mod, keep an eye out for a good roll.

Best PvE Roll

Destiny's perk meta for Swords has been Relentless Strikes and Whirlwind Blade for ages—a combination you'll see quite a bit in our other Sword entries. This combo provides a degree of ammo efficiency and damage that is tough to beat. You can roll with that exact configuration on Crown-Splitter, although the slow attack speed makes Whirlwind Blade tough to ramp up.

If you want to turn majors and bosses into atoms, then you'll want a roll with Tireless Blade and Vorpal Weapon. Tireless gives you ammo on heavy attack kills, something you'll be doing a lot. Vorpal Weapon gives this Sword a 15% multiplicative damage bonus against Champions and bosses. You could replace Vorpal with Surrounded, but the consistency of Vorpal is too good to pass up. Slap an Energy Converter on your Titan's Mark to double Crown-Splitter's heavy attack damage. Nothing will stand a chance.

Blade Guard Trait 1 Trait 2
Jagged Edge Heavy Guard Tireless Blade Vorpal Weapon

Best PvP Roll

Don't use this Sword in PvP. Just don't. It has terrible guard efficiency and swings slower than every other Sword in the game. If you decide to use it anyway, keep an eye out for Thresh.

Blade Guard Trait 1 Trait 2
Any Heavy Guard Thresh Vorpal Weapon

Empty Vessel

Zavala has a new toy that you can possibly earn at the end of every Strike. Unfortunately, it's another one of those playlist weapons that have more than double the perks of most normal weapons, making it very difficult to roll for.

Best PvE Roll

As usual, Ambitious Assassin is my suggestion for the left perk as it provides a double shot after your first kill. In the second perk slot, One For All, Demolitionist, or Vorpal are all fine choices. Danger Zone can be a risky choice considering the odds of blowing yourself up are just as high as blowing up all those nearby enemies, but if you're confident in your skill with a Grenade Launcher, be my guest.

If you're looking for a utility roll, consider an Empty Vessel with Blinding Grenades and Disruption Break. This serves as a great CC option for GM Nightfalls and Contest Mode raids. Disruption Break makes it solid for debuffing enemies too.

Add-Clear Roll

Crowd Control Roll

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Quick Launch Blinding Grenades Auto-Loading Holster Disruption Break

Best PvP Roll

Obtain a roll with Auto-Loading Holster and Disruption Break. Breaking a Guardian's shield with the GL will cause them to take 50% increased Kinetic damage from all sources for five seconds, allowing for easy clean-up kills.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Quick Launch Proximity Grenades Auto-Loading Holster Disruption Break

Eternity's Edge

Warlocks get the only other Vortex Frame Sword to hit Destiny 2 besides Falling Guillotine. This Vortex Sword deals Solar damage instead of Guillotine's Void. If you've already got a good Falling Guillotine, however, you can just skip Eternity's Edge.

Best PvE Roll

Because Eternity's Edge can't roll with Whirlwind Blade, it probably won't do much to unseat the Guillotine. It does have Relentless Strikes and Tireless Blade in the first perk column, which are likely best paired with either Assassin's Blade or Surrounded.

Blade Guard Trait 1 Trait 2
Jagged Edge Infinite Guard Relentless Strikes Assassin's Blade

Best PvP Roll

If you're looking for a good PvP Sword, this ain't it. Look for a roll with Thresh and Assassin's Blade if you're really interested in the spin-to-win playstyle this Sword encourages.

Blade Guard Trait 1 Trait 2
Jagged Edge Infinite Guard Thresh Assassin's Blade

Finite Impactor

If you have a Waking Vigil or Palindrome you like, then it's really hard to recommend this Iron Banner Hand Cannon. After Bungie converted 150 RPM Hand Cannons into 140s with Beyond Light, all 150s were left as 140s with subpar stat packages. Finite Impactor was hit the hardest with these changes. Unfortunately, its perks don't fare much better.

Best PvE Roll

Finite Impact can roll with Heating Up and Multikill Clip for those that can get the ball rolling on kills. If you just want a 140 Hand Cannon that can get the job done, this roll is what you'll want.

Sight Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Truesight HCS Ricochet Rounds Heating Up Multikill Clip

Best PvP Roll

If you're interested in this gun at all, you'll want to consider a roll with No Distractions and Iron Grip, as Finite Impactor is the only Hand Cannon in Destiny 2 that can roll with No Distractions. If No Distractions doesn't interest you, this Hand Cannon has nothing to offer.

Sight Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Truesight HCS Ricochet Rounds No Distractions Iron Grip

Hung Jury SR4

Hung Jury has returned! And strangely, Bungie decided not to give it Triple Tap as an available perk. However, this weapon can roll with some powerful perks like Firefly and Subsistence.

Best PvE Roll

This 150 Scout can roll Firefly in the second column, which is likely to be its best-in-slot option, and your first perk column has a number of great choices like Subsistence, Surplus, and Rapid Hit. Subsistence just edges out the others for its synergy with Firefly, so that’s my pick for best roll.

Better still, as one of the new Nightfall rewards, Hung Jury can come in Adept form by completing Grandmaster Nightfalls. As such, your concern for rolling one of these beauties should just be to maximize its already stellar stat profile.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Corkscrew Rifling Tactical Mag Subsistence Firefly

Best PvP Roll

If you loved Scourge of the Past's No Feelings scout, you'll feel right at home with Hung Jury. This is the only Scout Rifle that can roll with Box Breathing, giving this weapon a 0.67 TTK. Pair this with Moving Target for one of the most consistent Scout Rifles in the game.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Hammer-Forged Rifling Accurized Rounds Moving Target Box Breathing

Memory Interdict

Adaptive Grenade Launchers are still fine Heavy weapons. Keep an eye on his inventory for this particular weapon, as there are a few good combinations available.

Best PvE Roll

My recommendation is definitely Impulse Amplifier, which increases reload speed as well as grenade velocity. Pair that with Chain Reaction for an all-in-one Grenade Launcher that's great for DPS or clearing rooms full of adds.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Volatile Launch Spike Grenades Impulse Amplifier Chain Reaction

Best PvP Roll

Impulse Amplifier and Chain Reaction is the best roll for PvP. You can use Danger Close instead of Chain Reaction, but if you're using a GL against enemies that are surrounding you, there's a good chance the blast radius of your grenade will accidentally kill you.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Volatile Launch Proximity Grenades Impulse Amplifier Chain Reaction

Occluded Finality

Along with Frozen Orbit and Bite of the Fox, Occluded Finality is one of the few Aggressive Frame Sniper Rifles available, and as an Iron Banner weapon, its perks are mostly geared towards PvP.

Best PvE Roll

Auto-Loading Holster and Vorpal Weapon make it a serviceable choice in PvE, but there are better Sniper Rifles you can use against majors and bosses.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Arrowhead Brake Appended Mag Auto-Loading Holster Vorpal Weapon

Best PvP Roll

Snapshot Sights and Opening Shot is fantastic on this sniper, giving it a degree of consistency that most snipers dream of. If you can deal with the weapon's telescopic scope, you'll be able to land headshot after headshot with ease.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Hammer-Forged Rifling Ricochet Rounds Snapshot Sights Opening Shot

Pleiades Corrector

If you've been doing as much Deep Stone Crypt raiding as I have, then you probably have a Trustee that fits your Solar Scout Rifle slot better than anything since the Oxygen SR3, and Pleiades Corrector isn't going to change that. There's nothing particularly outstanding or noteworthy about the Pleiades Corrector other than its Lightweight Frame, so if you really like Scout Rifles and want one that deals Solar damage, then here it is.

Best PvE Roll

As for perks, Surplus, Subsistence, Outlaw, and Fourth Time's The Charm are good in the left column, while Demolitionist, Multikill Clip, and Wellspring are good in the second column. Pick your favs, but here's mine.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Arrowhead Brake Appended Mag Subsistence Wellspring

Best PvP Roll

This Scout Rifle is not a good choice for PvP. Use Trustee or an Exotic Scout Rifle instead.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2

Plug One.1

Null Composure will be the surest way to get your hands on a Fusion Rifle with the coveted Reservoir Burst, but Plug One.1 has the benefit of being a Precision Frame Fusion Rifle, which means it'll deal even more damage per burst than Null Composure.

Best PvE Roll

Beyond the S-tier Reservoir Burst perk, Plug One.1 can also roll with Heating Up, which will make it much easier to control if you need to just keep spraying shots. If you want to take full advantage of Reservoir Burst in PvE, however, you'll want Feeding Frenzy. Cornered is also a good alternative to Reservoir Burst.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Smallbore Liquid Coils Feeding Frenzy Reservoir Burst

Best PvP Rolls

Don't discount this gun for PvP. Cornered can be like a better Backup Plan when you're surrounded, while Kickstart can give a damage and charge rate boost for fancy Crucible plays. When paired with Heating Up, Plug One.1 becomes one of the best Fusion Rifles we've seen for PvP since Exile's Curse.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Smallbore Particle Repeater Heating Up Cornered

Quickfang

Destiny 2's Hunter-exclusive Sword, Quickfang, is the only non-sunset Lightweight Sword in the game currently. If you want to move quickly without compromising either your Primary and Special weapon, this is the weapon for you.

The Best PvE Roll

Quickfang does come with Relentless Strikes, but it doesn't get Whirlwind Blade. It does, however, have three damage options in Assassin's Blade, One For All, and En Garde. Of the three, Assassin's Blade is likely to have the best consistency; it allows you to kill a red bar and then quickly make your way to another or turn your attention to a more threatening enemy.

Tireless Blade is also there if you prefer, but the rest aren't really worth your time.

Blade Guard Trait 1 Trait 2
Jagged Edge Swordmaster's Guard Relentless Strikes Assassin's Blade

The Best PvP Roll

Unlike most Swords, Quickfang is actually worth using in PvP. Its Lightweight Frame gives you increased sprint speed and +20 Mobility while held. As for perks, look for a roll with Thresh and En Garde.

Blade Guard Trait 1 Trait 2
Jagged Edge Swordmaster's Guard Thresh En Garde

Riiswalker

Don't worry, Riiswalker isn't a Kinetic Felwinter's Lie. A mid-season nerf to Shotguns has made Riiswalker somewhat weaker, although this weapon's ability to roll with Iron Reach makes it a competitive option for PvP.

Best PvE Roll

Riiswalker isn't a good PvE Shotgun, but you can make it work. Surplus and Swashbuckler is a solid bet for a generic workhorse Shotgun, although there are far better PvE Shotguns you could farm for instead.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Full Choke Assault Mag Surplus Swashbuckler

Best PvP Roll

Iron Reach is by far the best option for the second trait column. Shotguns typically don't care too much about stability, and a massive +20 to range could potentially max out the stat if you also roll a Rifled Barrel, Accurized Rounds, and a Range Masterwork.

Throw Quickdraw, Surplus, or Slideshot in the first perk column, and you've got a deadly PvP weapon.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Full Choke Accurized Rounds Quickdraw Iron Reach

Shayura's Wrath

Trials finally has a Submachine Gun reward, and it's effectively a better Antiopde-D. Shayura's Wrath has better overall stats than most Precision Frame Subbies, so fans of this weapon family will really enjoy Shayrua's Wrath. It also has an Adept variant for skilled Trials players to chase.

Best PvE Roll

Kill Clip is great for consistent damage, although the rest of your second column picks are far from ideal. This gun does have handling issues, so we recommend you either go with Tunnel Vision or Killing Wind.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Corkscrew Rifling Tactical Mag Killing Wind Kill Clip

Best PvP Roll

The PvE roll we recommended above is also great for PvP, although we feel Tunnel Vision is slightly better for the Crucible. Tunnel Vision and Kill Clip make this weapon one of the most devastating SMGs in its archetype.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Smallbore Accurized Rounds Tunnel Vision Kill Clip

Stochastic Variable

There is one reason to try to get this SMG: Phase Magazine. In essence, this magazine perk warps this Lightweight Frame into a Precision Frame SMG.

Best PvE Roll

Phase Magazine reduces the number of bullets in the magazine from 36 to 31, and it reduces the fire rate, but it greatly improves per-bullet damage. Since you're going to be reloading more often, throw in either Feeding Frenzy or Surplus and a Multikill Clip, and you've got yourself a god roll.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Corkscrew Rifling Phase Magazine Feeding Frenzy Multikill Clip

Best PvP Roll

Stochastic Variable isn't the best in PvP, with or without Phase Magazine. Killing Windand Quickdraw is arguably the best roll you can find on this gun.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Smallbore Ricochet Rounds Killing Wind Quickdraw

Survivor's Epitaph

If you thought that Survivor's Epitaph was The Duke reborn just because it has a similar model, I've got bad news for you. Epitaph is actually a Precision Frame (180 RPM) Hand Cannon, which isn't a particularly great archetype already, and it's made worse by having such an enormous perk pool that it's basically impossible to grind for any specific rolls. On the plus side, this weapon's perk pool contains some gems that can turn this weapon into a true successor to Luna's Howl and Not Forgotten.

Best PvE Roll

Survivor's Epitaph has a lot of great options. Surplus + Wellspring is there, Tunnel Vision + Frenzy is too, and so is Feeding Frenzy + Multi-Kill Clip. But because there are so many perks on this gun, you're not likely to get the roll you want.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Chambered Compensator Ricochet Rounds Tunnel Vision Frenzy

Best PvP Roll

Tunnel Vision and Kill Clip turn this Hand Cannon into Luna's Howl, allowing you to easily three-tap Guardians while Kill Clip is active. When paired with Tunnel Vision, the gun practically aims itself.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Arrowhead Brake Ricochet Rounds Tunnel Vision Kill Clip

The Deicide

I will never forgive Bungie for taking away Perfect Paradox, and The Deicide doesn't even come close to making up for removing the best Rapid-Fire Shotgun in the game. It doesn't even match up with Wishbringer in terms of stats, and it has no access to Opening Shot. At least it can roll with One-Two Punch.

Best PvE Roll

On the plus side, The Deicide does have One-Two Punch in the second column and Slideshot in the first column. It's not enough to compare to Perfect Paradox, but it gets the job done.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Rifled Barrel Accurized Rounds Slideshot One-Two Punch

Best PvP Roll

Surplus and Vorpal Weapon is a solid roll for PvP, allowing this weapon to shut down Supers if you can stay close to one. If you are that interested in shutting down Supers, consider a Succession or Dead Man's Tale with Vorpal Weapon instead.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2

The Number

Precision Frame Auto Rifles got buffed in Season of the Splicer, so you might want to track one of these down if you didn't keep your BrayTech Werewolf. If you did, feel free to skip this weapon. The Number's stats are far worse than what the Werewolf comes with.

Best PvE Roll

The Number can roll with Surplus, which does a great job of boosting all those stats so long as you're not constantly spamming your abilities. One For All, Multikill Clip, and High Impact Reserves will give you more damage, but Wellspring just synergizes so perfectly with Surplus that it's hard to ignore.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Arrowhead Brake Extended Mag Surplus Wellspring

Best PvP Roll

A roll with Under Pressure and High-Impact Reserves is surprisingly powerful on this gun, as its high zoom and range values give it an edge in medium-range gunfights. You can replace Under Pressure with Killing Wind, but the synergy between Under Pressure and High-Impact Reserves is too good to pass up.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Arrowhead Brake High-Caliber Rounds Under Pressure High-Impact Reserves

The Vision

Another three-round burst energy Sidearm, The Vision is perfectly serviceable if you haven't been able to track down a High Albedo or you desperately want an Arc Energy Sidearm.

Best PvE Roll

I've always found Full Auto Trigger to be a bit much on a three-burst Sidearm, so I'd recommend either Surplus to bring up this gun's reload speed or Ambitious Assassin to bump the weapon's magazine capacity. Kill Clip, One For All, or Swashbuckler are all fine choices to add damage in the second perk slot.

Sight Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Tactic SAS Accurized Rounds Ambitious Assassin OR Surplus Kill Clip

Best PvP Roll

It's hard to go wrong with Surplus and Kill Clip on a Sidearm, bumping virtually every aspect of this weapon. The enhanced stability from Surplus and damage from Kill Clip is nothing short of incredible. If you don't like Surplus, consider Killing Wind instead.

Sight Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Farpoint SAS Accurized Rounds Surplus Kill Clip

Uzume RR4

If you were upset about Adored coming with Accurized Rounds instead of a magazine with increased capacity, Uzume RR4 might be the Beloved replacement you've actually been looking for. You can even get the Adept version from Grandmaster Nightfalls.

Best PvE Roll

In the first perk column, Triple Tap sits above the rest, although Clown Cartridge is a viable alternative. In the second column, Vorpal Weapon provides better boss damage, but High-Impact Reserves can help take down Champions and tough Majors. It's personal preference, but I'm a big fan of High Impact Reserves.

Barrel Magazine Trait 1 Trait 2
Arrowhead Brake Tactical Mag Triple Tap High-Impact Reserves

Best PvP Roll

Uzume is a surprisingly good PvP sniper. Thanks to this sniper's wide scope, a zoom value of 50 doesn't feel too limiting. Keep your eyes out for a roll with Snapshot Sights and Vorpal Weapon. If you don't use your Sniper Rifle to shut down Supers, replace Vorpal with Demolitionist.
