Developer Claims The Leaked Mandalorian

A Sumo Digital developer has claimed that footage of a leaked game based on The Mandalorian is likely fake.

Jack Chapman, a senior game designer at Sumo Digital, commented on the recent rumours of a Mandalorian game that have been circulating the internet over the past few days.

In case you missed it, a YouTube channel randomly uploaded around five minutes of purported gameplay footage from a Mandalorian game, showing the character running through a ship, using the grappling hook to jump over gaps, and engaging in third-person combat. The whole thing was made to look like a presentation through Stadia, and it was honestly pretty convincing if you didn't look closely.

Jack Chapman jumped in to offer his perspective on the leak, claiming that it looks like a fan-made project using Unreal Engine 4, specifically using a pack called Advanced Locomotion Systems. He said, "That's definitely a UE4 project using a package called ALS. I recognise that body animation anywhere! Looks like a cool fan-made project tho." A later Tweet also added, "I know those footsteps and body sounds too well".

After hearing that, it's a bit easier to look back on the project and notice some of the inaccuracies and weird inclusions that could have previously been chalked up to it being early footage. Baby Yoda looks a little too skinny, the Stadia UI overlay doesn't dim the screen, and some have reported that the title screen music is taken from a guitar cover online.

Even then, the footage is still seriously impressive with little details like the UI and voice-acting taking it to another level of fan-made fakes, if that's what it actually is. Is it fake? Possibly, but it's also possible that it's an early test version of the game, or that Jack is mistaken in this case. It seems like he knows what he's talking about though. Even if this particular game ends up being fake, it's really just a matter of time until we see a proper version.
