DICE LA Working on New Battlefield Game

DICE LA is working on a new Battlefield game, it seems. This is according to senior design director Justin Wiebe on Twitter who asked everyone to guess what Electronic Arts-owned franchise he was “thrilled to be working on now.” After numerous guesses, Wiebe confirmed that it was indeed Battlefield.

He then noted that, “It’s wondrous I get to work on a game I fell in love with almost 20 years ago! The sandbox play of [Battlefield] 1942 was just amazing for its time. I look forward to hearing from all of you what you loved and hope for in a future Battlefield game.”

The studio, formerly known as Danger Close Games, is no stranger to first person shooters having worked on Medal of Honor and Medal of Honor: Warfighter in the past. A rumor in 2017 noted that DICE LA was working on Battlefield: Bad Company 3 while the Sweden office was busy with 2018’s Battlefield (which turned out to be Battlefield 5). In January 2020, Respawn Entertainment founder Vince Zampella took over leadership at the studio and teased an unannounced title.

EA has already confirmed that the next Battlefield will be revealed this Spring and release in Holiday 2021. Thus far, we know that it will have “massive, immersive battles” with “more players than ever before” and “mark a return to all-out military warfare.” It will be coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC but PS4 and Xbox One versions also seem to be in the works as per rumors.

Any guesses what EA owned franchise I’m thrilled to be working on now?
