Exclusivity Has Broken on Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water After Six Years
Long-time fans and Japanese horror fans will find themselves trembling in excitement as after six years on Wii U-exclusive version, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water will be released worldwide this week on various different platforms. While it was reported initially that this game remaster would be released on October 28th, in North America we will be seeing the game this evening, on October 27 at 6 pm PT or 9 pm ET for those on the East Coast. In Europe, players can have their own copy on October 28 at 1 am UTC, which is 2 am BST, and 3 am CEST; in Asia, the game release is officially October 28 at 10 am JST. For those who have been unable to play the Koei Tecmo game before, they will be able to find Fatal Frame on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
This is huge for the Japanese horror franchise, as no Fatal Frame game has been released on any platform but Nintendo for years. And, too, it is a victory as a previous game, Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse and the remake of Fatal Frame: Deep Crimson Butterfly (also known as Project Zero 2: Wii edition) had only been released on Nintendo platforms, despite positive reception from fans. However, there has been no promise of other new Fatal Frame game remasters. But, there is a possibility if the re-release does well of a new Fatal Frame title if it does well. Long-term fans, as well as new fans, can only hope this is true and will come to fruition.
It may help that there are bonuses to those who pre-order or buy the game early on any platform. For those who have pre-ordered their Fatal Frame copy, they will also gain two costume pieces in the form of hats, one of which is a witches hat (perfect for Halloween playing!). The other is giving the character a camera obscura head (though they call it a hat). But for those who are too late for the pre-order, don’t fret: there is an Early Purchase bonus until November 11 of a Yuri exclusive costume of a Ryza costume and hat. Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is 39.99 on all platforms, but there is a Deluxe Edition of the game which comes with Past Progtaist Costumes and 20th Anniversary Digitial Artbook for $54.99. For those who love the characters of the series, not to mention the ghosts, this is a must-buy.
