Fable Will Launch Before The Elder Scrolls 6, Says Phil Spencer

Xbox boss Phil Spencer recently spoke about Fable and The Elder Scrolls 6, both of which are expected to launch on Xbox Series X|S sometime in the future. As many had already assumed, Spencer confirmed that the next Fable title will launch before TES 6, which we most likely won't see for several years.

Speaking with IGN Unlocked (via GamesRadar+), Spencer touched upon the announced triple-A RPGs for Microsoft consoles, which are Fable, TES 6, and Avowed. Information regarding all projects is extremely scarce, and none of the titles even have a confirmed release window. Yet, the Head of Xbox said The Elder Scrolls 6 is “further out” in terms of a release date compared to Fable or Avowed.

At this point, Microsoft still hasn’t revealed whether a new game in the Fable series will be a sequel, prequel, or a complete reboot. The title is being developed by Playground Games, the studio responsible for the Forza Horizon series, so it will be using the Forza Tech engine for its fantasy environments.

Aside from its presumably high-quality visuals, Fable will also be “light-hearted and British,” just like you may expect from its debut trailer or the series’ roots. The Xbox boss added “it’s important to have great games to fill up the portfolio of things people get to play on Xbox,” when commenting on the number of RPGs currently in development for the platform.

Previously Phil Spencer revealed The Elder Scrolls 6 will be “very different” not only from the upcoming Fable game but with Avowed as well. Obsidian’s new first-person fantasy RPG was announced in 2020, and we haven’t heard about the project ever since. There’s no rush with this one, as Spencer added he wants to give Obsidian the time and resources to build the most amazing game the studio has ever built.

According to VentureBeat reporter Jeff Grubb, Avowed will be launched in 2023 alongside Fable and some other previously announced Xbox games. If his information is correct, The Elder Scrolls 6 shouldn’t be expected until at least 2024, or 2025-2026, which is something just a little more believable, considering Todd Howard’s words of the game still being in a design phase.
