The Glowing Sea is the most irradiated area in Fallout 4It is not actually a sea, instead being a wasteland of destroyed buildings and empty landscapes. The most common enemy players will find are Ghouls, deathclaws, and the occasional Child of Atom. The Glowing Sea was once a part of Boston, but was struck by bombs at the start of the Great War.

Players who venture into the Glowing Sea must watch out for pockets of radiation and potential enemies. When not avoiding areas, there are numerous spots to explore and stories from before the war for the player to discover.

10 Has Locations Out Of Game Map

Locations are always expected to be found inside the game’s boundaries. A lot of locations in the Glowing Sea can be found outside of the game’s boundaries. While areas towards the north and east of the game will alert players they are leaving the boundaries, players can go past these in the Glowing Sea.

It is an interesting detail for the area, as a lot of Glowing Sea locations are still in the game’s boundaries. More than likely, it was so the game’s boundaries could stay in a square shape.

9 Sentinal Site A Reference To Real-World Project

The Sentinel Program was suppose to defend heavily populated areas from a nuclear attack. One of these was partially constructed in North Andover, Massachusetts. It would seem in the Fallout universe, this site was constructed and operational at the time of the war.

This particular site also looks similar to a military instillation in North Dakota. Players are able to explore this area, seeing what the inside of the pyramid base looks like.

8 Nuclear Bombs Found Inside Of Glowing Sea

The Sentinel Site also makes an appearance for a Brotherhood of Steel quest to rearm Liberty Prime. Players can find Mk. 28 nukes inside of the pyramid. It would seem that this area was not able to launch any nukes, especially because it was at ground zero.

Because of the protection of the Sentinel Site, none of the bombs detonated from the nuclear strike. It is also interesting to see the military instillation frozen in time, being stopped by a nuclear war.

7 Can Hear A Pilot’s Last Moments

Players can stumble across the wreckage of Skylanes Flight 1665. By going to the cockpit, players can find the final transmission from the pilots of the airline. The airline was headed for Boston Airport, being grounded by the nuclear strike.

Players can hear the pilot at the moment the bomb hits Boston. He will mention there is a bright light from the north, with the transmission ending soon after.

6 Can Find A Skeleton Stuck In Time

Skeletons in Fallout 4 can be found in different poses, telling a story of what happened as the bombs dropped. At the Decrepit Factory, players can find a skeleton who is stuck reaching for safety.

It is sad to think this person was left behind as the bombs dropped closely to him. 200 years later, he can be found reaching up and frozen in the same position he died in.

5 Can Find Crater From Nuke That Hit Boston

When the player first gets to Vault 111, they can see the bomb that hits outside of Boston. By exploring the Glowing Sea, they are also able to see the crater from this bomb. Interestingly, the Children of Atom have set up inside of the crater.

This is also the same crater and nuclear strike that created the Glowing Sea. The Children of Atom are known for inhabiting highly irradiated areas, so it makes sense they would create a settlement at the location of a nuclear strike.

4 Isolde Will Heal Radiation Slowly When Talked To

Mother Isolde is the leader of the Children of Atom at the Crater of Atom. It would be assumed that she has some sort of immunity to radiation if she can live in the crater. What players might not expect is that she has a secret ability.

Talking to Mother Isolde will slowly heal the player’s radiation levels. This is a good way to get rid of the high amounts of radiation the player might have from traveling the Glowing Sea.

3 Decayed Reactors Add To Radiation From Glowing Sea

These domes give off 40 radiation a second when the player gets near them. It would also appear to be too much radiation for a Child of Atom, with their dead bodies being found inside one of the reactors. Players are also able to find glowing fungus at the site of the reactors.

Players can also find strong enemies in this location, such as deathclaws and radscorpions. An interesting detail is that if the player activates a circuit breaker located at the site, a voice will announce that a meltdown is imminent.

2 Hidden Surveillance Center Can Be Found

There was a hidden surveillance center located where the Glowing Sea is. Players will find a shack with skeletons, along with a trap door. This leads to an elevator, which brings the players to Federal Surveillance Center K-21B.

Players might also run into three synths inside of the bunker. After dispatching them (or leaving them alone, depending on your faction), players can explore the Pre-War bunker and loot supplies.

1 Rad Storms Come From Glowing Sea

Rad Storms are one of the newer features of the Fallout series. Rain will fall on top of the player, irradiating them slightly. This comes from clouds that go over the Glowing Sea, trapping radiation from the nuclear crater.

It could be assumed it was from the nuclear fallout of the world, but this radiation comes from the Glowing Sea. The most radiation a player will get is 5 rads a second, meaning they are in no real danger from these storms. It is still a good idea to try to avoid these storms, however.
