Filming Has Wrapped On HBO’s The Last Of Us Pilot

Filming on the very first episode of HBO's The Last Of Us appears to be complete judging by an Instagram post courtesy of its director.

The Last Of Us will come to a whole new medium, and a whole new audience when its TV adaptation debuts on HBO, hopefully at some point in 2022. There is every chance that tenuous release date is moved as the project being undertaken is a massive one. Season one might only be ten episodes long, but each episode reportedly has an eight-figure budget.

The silver lining for those of you eagerly awaiting HBO's take on The Last Of Us is filming on the pilot episode of the show appears to have wrapped. That's judging by a new Instagram post from its director, Kantemir Balagov. Balagov had been tasked with directing the adaptation's very first episode, and it appears his part in the massive project is now done.

“My job here is done. I’m really grateful for the opportunity. It was a great experience with ups and downs,” Balagov tweeted from the set of the show. The accompanying photo includes a clapperboard emblazoned with a pretty cool-looking The Last Of Us logo. All in red with a white Firefly logo. Perhaps that will be the logo that makes it onto posters and is shown at the start of each episode.

While HBO hasn't revealed anything concrete or official about the show's story, images from the set seem to confirm its first season will closely follow the events of the first game. Various images appear to have hinted at the car ride Joel, Tommy, and Sarah take during the game's opening, the Austin, Texas backdrop that accompanies the game's opening moments, and a set that looks a lot like the Boston Quarantine Zone where Joel and Ellie first meet.

As for The Last Of Us games, there appears to be a lot to be excited about on that front too. Naughty Dog continues to hint that the standalone multiplayer it's working on is the factions modes originally intended for The Last Of Us Part 2. Even more exciting, the outline for Part 3 has already been written. While that doesn't necessarily mean it will ever be made, considering the success of the first two games, it seems likely that it will be one day.
