Fortnite has announced its latest addition to the growing Icon Series. The next celebrity to join the fray will be Colombian singer J Balvin, who headlined last year's in-game Fortnite Halloween concert known as Fortnitemares.
The Icon Series initially began as a way to pay homage to the influencers and streamers who helped push Fortnite to the massive level of popularity it currently holds. Since then, Fortnite has expanded the definition of the series to include massive celebrities like LeBron James, Travis Scott, and, with the latest addition, Ariana Grande. Since both Scott and Grande featured during in-game concerts before receiving their own cosmetics in Fortnite, it should be no surprise to fans to see J Balvin join the Icon Series.

As with the other Icon Series sets, J Balvin's cosmetics will include a back bling, a glider, a pickaxe, and, like LeBron James, he will also have two additional styles to compliment his base skin. For Balvin's set, his back bling and pickaxe come in the form of multicolored katanas, and his glider is a chromatic snowboard which is adorned with his classic smiley face logo. Of course, all three of his skins will be rocking J Balvin's own Jordan 1 collaboration.
The J Balvin set is slated to release on August 26 at 8 PM ET, but impatient fans have a chance to get their hands on the set early via an in-game competition. The J Balvin Cup, which debuts tomorrow, is a duos cup that challenges players to compete against each other to earn as many points as possible, with one point being awarded for each elimanation a team scores. After a total of 10 matches, duos groups will be ranked against others in their region with the top-performing partners being rewarded with the J Balvin skin, back bling, and pickaxe.
As a further tribute to the Colombian singer, Fortnite will also be launching the "La Fiesta" event on the same day as the cosmetic set's official release. The La Fiesta event will run from August 26 to September 9 and appears to be a custom island within Fortnite similar to last year's "La Familia" release which was also a community-made island associated with J Balvin. Unfortunately, the appearance of the La Fiesta island, being a circular track with a bright, chromatic colorway, has led many in the community to jokingly compare it to the legendary Rainbow Road stage from the Mario Kart series.
Fortnite is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
