Fortnite has always had a bevy of fun emotes for players to choose from, but players have recently found that a new skin has one of the best emotes yet. Part of the Fortnite Season 4 Battle Pass, Mystique’s exclusive emote features a really cool detail that fits the character well.
Mystique, a popular X-Men villain and occasional hero, can be unlocked late in Season 4’s Marvel-themed battle pass. Unlocked all the way at tier 86, Mystique looks exactly like her comic book counterpart as opposed to the often-naked version of the character in the FOX films. It turns out that her exclusive emote, titled “shapeshifter,” allows players to use Mystique’s iconic transformation power.

By simply performing the emote, players can instantly transform into a different Fortnite character. The character is not chosen at random, however. Instead, the emote will turn Mystique into the character last killed by the players using her. That means that if a Mystique player kills someone in a Silver Surfer skin, they can perform the emote and become Silver Surfer themselves.
While the emote offers no real gameplay advantages, it is a great nod to the character’s comic book lore and makes the Mystique skin a bit more special. She is known for assuming the identity of heroes and villains alike in the books she features in, so seeing Mystique’s transformation ability in-game is a great touch by Epic Games. She joins fellow X-Men Storm and Wolverine in the newest Fortnite battle pass, with other Marvel heroes filling out the rest of the content in the tiers. Even Black Panther and a Wakanda location on the map are supposedly coming to Fortnite as part of Season 4.
Having such an emote shows just how much care was put into this crossover event with Marvel, and it is exciting to think of what other surprises the Fortnite team can have in store for Marvel fans. With awesome little easter eggs like planting Baby Groot seeds, there is a lot for Marvel-lovers to accomplish within Fortnite. Season 4 will be going on for quite some time, but for anyone crazy about Marvel, jumping in sooner rather than later is a smart idea.
While it may seem as if Epic is focused only on Marvel content, the team has put just as much attention on the ongoing drama with Apple. The team encouraged fans to create #FreeFortnite skins and content, so Mystique players may just be using the new emote to transform into an anti-Apple skin soon.
Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions in development.
