Sorry Bushranger fans, the latest Fortnite side-mission seems to imply that the character has been killed off.
Last week, Fortnite added a legendary quest that had players finding and delivering alien eggs to Bushranger, who aimed to look after and raise them. When advertising the quest, the Fortnite Twitter account cheekily said, "Help Bushranger spread the seeds of peace by caring for Alien Eggs. It’s an eggcellent way to give peace one last chance, what could go wrong?"

Now that the legendary quest is finished, players can return to the spot where Bushranger was stood and find a freshly dug grave with flowers sprouting out the top. Players who have visited the grave have reported peaceful music coming from the location, which is really leaning into the idea that Bushranger has been killed by the alien eggs the player collected for them.
In a dark turn of events, fans are hoping that the grave is actually for the baby aliens that Bushranger was trying to raise. The hedgehog tree-creature is one of Fortnite's most popular original characters, so it's not too much of a surprise to see the player base jump to their defence, but it's a bit grim to be wanting that.
Another hopeful theory is that Bushranger has died, but will grow into another tree, similar to Groot, even pointing out some similarities to an alien-tree looking creature. Fans seem to be grasping at whatever straw they can to keep Bushranger alive, although anyone who has played Fortnite will realise that he's not gone for good, and will likely just have another themed skin to indicate his return.
This isn't the first time that Fortnite has seemingly killed off a popular character. Last season saw Peely getting Hadouken-ed into mush during a cinematic trailer, prompting fans to speculate on whether the character was really dead, or just likely to respawn for the next battle royale. Peely's still here, so Bushranger can't be far behind.
